\nalso been a celebration of those whose work sustains the modern world. <\/span>Then as now, those whose work sustain
\ncivilization were oppressed by parasites who grew fat and sleek through the
\nefforts and creativity of others. Those creative others they treated and
\ncontinue to treat<\/a> as expendable inferiors. Some people
\nare rich because they deserve it. Others, the parasites, are rich
\nbecause, as they admit, they are <\/span>smart and vicious enough<\/span><\/a><\/span> to try and use money to fill an infinitely deep hole in their empty
\nsouls. They <\/span>even endorse class war<\/span><\/a><\/span>. Bill Moyers, one of the
\nall-time greats in American journalism put it very well<\/a>. <\/span> I want to offer what is admittedly a rant, but a well supported one, in
\nrespectful memory of this May Day tradition as well.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\n<\/p>\n
\nthe least productive and least creative among us in both politics and
\nbusiness. <\/span>The productive and
\ncreative are too busy by and large to play the sordid organizational games
\nthese men and occasional women have mastered. <\/span>With very few exceptions, are masters of manipulation,
\ndeceit, and distraction. <\/span><\/p>\n
\noligarchy and its faithful servants<\/a>. Elected on so many false promises I have given up counting them, Barack Obama
\nseems to feel his best operating plan him is to kiss up to his enemies and kick
\nthose who believed his promises<\/s> lies in the shins. <\/span>Or somewhat higher. <\/span>Now that we have the worst oil spill in
\nhistory, possibly world history, he is stil <\/span>following his urge to placate his enemies including the
\n“drill baby drill” Alaskan imbecile<\/a>. <\/span>Even so, now both he<\/a> and the corporate sociopaths<\/a> he serves are looking pretty incompetent<\/a>. (More here<\/a>.) <\/span>As indeed they should.<\/p>\n
\nfor more open government, a basic requirement for democracy. <\/span>Now he has shown himself to not only do
\nall he can to prevent the truth of Bush era law-breaking from coming out (let’s
\nput it behind us) he wants to prosecute people who blew the whistle<\/a> on
\nRepublican lawlessness. <\/span> <\/span>(Let’s not put that behind us.) These priorities are not only dishonest, they are depraved.<\/p>\n
\nAfghans and Americans to no good end. Picking up where Bush left off, dead people matter not at all when the
\nalternative is being criticized by Rebubbalicans. <\/span>The man now has buckets of innocent blood on his hands,
\nblood needlessly spilled and with no end in sight.<\/p>\n
\ntax cuts for the parasites, he proposes putting domestic programs on the
\nchopping bloc, programs that benefit Americans, while increasing the defense
\nbudget that served us so well against box cutters. <\/span>But GE and Halliburton and other parts of his true
\nconstituency will be pleased. <\/span>Our
\n‘defense’ budget is now far bigger than during the Cold Wa<\/a>r. <\/p>\nRepublican<\/s> Rebubbalican Confederate
\nparty is showing its true colors as the political abode for the most degenerate
\nportion<\/a> of our nation, who are building mini police states<\/a> in Arizona and Virginia. <\/span>And
\nhoping to build more in Oklahoma and a host of other states. <\/span>I am struck with the fact that these
\n“patriots” are willing to guarantee oppression and abuse of brown Americans but
\ndo not target the large agribusinesses whose hiring practices draw illegal
\nimmigrants north. <\/span>The poor and
\nneedy are enticed north with the promise of jobs, rendered even more powerless
\nby depraved laws, while the corporate aristocrats who lure them continue to
\nlive in luxury. <\/span><\/p>\n
\ncorporate aristocrats who wax fat of the blood of other hard working
\npeople. <\/span>Mines have
\ncollapsed, killing workers needlessly while funneling millions to the
\noligarchy. <\/span>Those deaths proved as
\nDon Blankenship observed, mine safety rules are as
\nsilly as global warming<\/a>. <\/span> Only not in the way he intended.
\n<\/span>Blankenship is the thug and <\/span>possible crimina<\/span><\/a><\/span>l who<\/span> runs Massey Energy.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\nSimilarly, we are
\ndiscovering that oil giant BP, served so loyally by both parties, opposed
\nsafety rules and rejected measures already in use elsewhere that would likely
\nhave made this spill impossible<\/a>. Halliburton, is involved as well.
\n<\/span>Having previously done so much damage to us in Iraq (see <\/span>here<\/a> and here<\/a> and here<\/a>) <\/span>while making millions for Dick Cheney,
\nHalliburton is once again living down to its image<\/a>. There is no better candidate for the corporate <\/a><\/span>death
\npenalty<\/a>. <\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n
\n<\/p>\n
\nBright Boys in Finance, bright boys who transited effortlessly from serving
\nthemselves under Bush to serving themselves under Obama. <\/span>Whether opposing auditing<\/a> in the
\nFederal Reserve or stonewalling and possibly lying under testimon<\/a>y and hiding facts they should legally have disclosed<\/a> , these parasites <\/span>have done and
\nare continuing to do great harm to everything but their pocket books. <\/span>Whether they are convicted of breaking
\nthe law or are able to weasel out with the aid of corporate lawyers, <\/span>political servants secretly undermining
\neffective action against them, and a compromised court system is yet to become
\nclear. <\/span>What is clear to all but
\nthe high priest economists who provide fancy rationalizations for them is that
\nthey are parasites, frightfully effective ones.<\/p>\n
\ndishonesty across the board, <\/span>is by
\nan old ruling elite that has gamed the constitution by capturing both parties
\nwhile preventing the rise of alternatives. <\/span>We get to choose from moderately inhumane corporatist hacks
\namong Democrats or far worse corporatist hacks and their theocratic allies with
\nthe Rebubbalicans. <\/span>Both are
\ndominated by ideas that have long since outlived their usefulness, assuming
\nthey had any to begin with. <\/span>They
\npersist by covering for one another when the chips are down, rewarding
\nincompetents <\/a> and penalizing the competent. <\/p>\n
\npolitical antibodies this civilization can generate are up to the task of
\neliminating this combination of toxic infection and growing senility.<\/p>\n
\nprinciples our country was founded on and on those remaining honest people in government who might still prove that
\nour new aristocratic plutocracy is <\/span>subject to the law like everybody else<\/span><\/a><\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
