Those creative others they treated and<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2010\/04\/30\/wall-street-reportedly-ci_n_559032.html\">continue to treat<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;as expendable inferiors.<span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Times;color:#262626\">Some people<br \/>\nare rich because they deserve it. &nbsp;Others, the parasites, are rich<br \/>\nbecause, as they admit, they are <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:ArialMT;color:#262626\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2010\/04\/30\/wall-street-reportedly-ci_n_559032.html\"><span style=\"font-family:Times;color:#002463;text-decoration:none\">smart and vicious enough<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Times;color:#262626\"> to try and use money to fill an infinitely deep hole in their empty<br \/>\nsouls. &nbsp;They <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:ArialMT;color:#262626\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ftalphaville.ft.com\/blog\/2010\/04\/30\/217381\/we-are-wall-street-we-are-smarter-and-more-vicious-than-dinosaurs\/\"><span style=\"font-family:Times;color:#002463;text-decoration:none\">even endorse class war<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Times;color:#262626\">. &nbsp;&nbsp;<span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Bill Moyers, one of the<br \/>\nall-time greats in American journalism <a href=\"http:\/\/digbysblog.blogspot.com\/2010\/05\/farewell-to-bill-moyers.html\">put it very well<\/a>.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>&nbsp;I want to offer what is admittedly a rant, but a well supported one, in<br \/>\nrespectful memory of this May Day tradition as well.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><!--StartFragment-->\n<\/p>\n<p><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">To do so properly we have to understand we are governed by<br \/>\nthe least productive and least creative among us in both politics and<br \/>\nbusiness.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The productive and<br \/>\ncreative are too busy by and large to play the sordid organizational games<br \/>\nthese men and occasional women have mastered.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>With very few exceptions, are masters of manipulation,<br \/>\ndeceit, and distraction.<span>&nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Even so, it&#8217;s been a tough few months for America&#8217;s ruling<br \/>\noligarchy and its <a href=\"http:\/\/baselinescenario.com\/2010\/05\/01\/why-do-senators-corker-and-dodd-really-think-we-need-big-banks\/\">faithful servants<\/a>. &nbsp;Elected on so many false promises I have given up counting them, Barack Obama<br \/>\nseems to feel his best operating plan him is to kiss up to his enemies and kick<br \/>\nthose who believed his <s>promises<\/s> lies in the shins.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Or somewhat higher.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Now that we have the worst oil spill in<br \/>\nhistory, possibly world history, he is stil<span>&nbsp; <\/span>following his urge to placate his enemies including the<br \/>\n&#8220;drill baby drill&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2010\/04\/29\/drill-baby-drill-champion_n_558014.html\">Alaskan imbecile<\/a>. <span>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span>Even so, now both <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2010\/05\/01\/drilling-awards\/\">he<\/a> &nbsp;and the <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2010\/04\/30\/bp-greenwashing-drill\/\">corporate sociopaths<\/a> he serves are <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2010\/04\/30\/bp-offshore-testify\/\">looking pretty incompetent<\/a>. &nbsp;(More<a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/us_louisiana_oil_rig_explosion\"> here<\/a>.) <span>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span>As indeed they should.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Among the more important lies Obama told us was his pledge<br \/>\nfor more open government, a basic requirement for democracy.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Now he has shown himself to not only do<br \/>\nall he can to prevent the truth of Bush era law-breaking from coming out (let&#8217;s<br \/>\nput it behind us) he wants to prosecute <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/news\/opinion\/glenn_greenwald\/2010\/04\/29\/risen\/index.html\">people who blew the whistle<\/a> on<br \/>\nRepublican lawlessness. <span>&nbsp;<\/span><span>&nbsp;<\/span>(Let&#8217;s not put that behind us.) &nbsp;These priorities are not only dishonest, they are depraved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Meanwhile Obama&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/news\/opinion\/glenn_greenwald\/2010\/04\/27\/afghanistan\">war on Afghanistan<\/a> continues killing<br \/>\nAfghans and Americans to no good end. &nbsp;Picking up where Bush left off, dead people matter not at all when the<br \/>\nalternative is being criticized by Rebubbalicans.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The man now has buckets of innocent blood on his hands,<br \/>\nblood needlessly spilled and with no end in sight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Warning of fiscal crises brought about by endless war and<br \/>\ntax cuts for the parasites, he proposes putting domestic programs on the<br \/>\nchopping bloc, programs that benefit Americans, while increasing the defense<br \/>\nbudget that served us so well against box cutters.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>But GE and Halliburton and other parts of his true<br \/>\nconstituency will be pleased.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Our<br \/>\n&#8216;defense&#8217; budget is now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/id\/2243297\">far bigger than during the Cold Wa<\/a>r.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Meanwhile the <s>Republican<\/s> Rebubbalican Confederate<br \/>\nparty is showing its true colors as the political abode for the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2010\/04\/30\/arizona-ethnic-studies-cl_n_558731.html\"> most degenerate<br \/>\nportion<\/a> of our nation, &nbsp;who are building<a href=\"http:\/\/crooksandliars.com\/jackie-mahendra\/battlefield-arizona-police-state-b\"> mini police states<\/a> &nbsp;in Arizona and Virginia.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>And<br \/>\nhoping to build more in Oklahoma and a host of other states.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>I am struck with the fact that these<br \/>\n&#8220;patriots&#8221; are willing to guarantee oppression and abuse of brown Americans but<br \/>\ndo not target the large agribusinesses whose hiring practices draw illegal<br \/>\nimmigrants north.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The poor and<br \/>\nneedy are enticed north with the promise of jobs, rendered even more powerless<br \/>\nby depraved laws, while the corporate aristocrats who lure them continue to<br \/>\nlive in luxury.<span>&nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:14.0pt;line-height:22.0pt\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', helvetica, hirakakupro-w3, osaka, 'ms pgothic', sans-serif;font-size: 16px;line-height: normal\">Then there are the<br \/>\ncorporate aristocrats who wax fat of the blood of other hard working<br \/>\npeople.<span>&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>Mines have<br \/>\ncollapsed, killing workers needlessly while funneling millions to the<br \/>\noligarchy.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Those deaths proved as<br \/>\nDon Blankenship observed,<span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, hirakakupro-w3, osaka, 'ms pgothic', sans-serif;font-size: 13px\"><span>&nbsp;mine <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2010\/04\/12\/don-blankenship-calls-eff_n_534105.html\">safety rules are as<br \/>\nsilly as global warming<\/a>. <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Times\">&nbsp;Only not in the way he intended.<span>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>Blankenship is the thug and <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:ArialMT\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2010\/04\/30\/fbi-investigating-fed-off_n_558544.html\"><span style=\"font-family:Times;color:#002F76;text-decoration:none\">possible crimina<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Times\">l who<\/span><span> runs Massey Energy.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:14.0pt;line-height:22.0pt\"><font face=\"'Times New Roman', helvetica, hirakakupro-w3, osaka, 'ms pgothic', sans-serif\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;line-height: normal\"><br \/>\n<!--StartFragment--><span>Similarly, we are<br \/>\ndiscovering that oil giant BP, served so loyally by both parties, opposed<br \/>\nsafety rules and rejected measures already in use elsewhere that would likely<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/stories\/2010\/04\/29\/national\/main6444311.shtml\">have made this spill impossible<\/a>. &nbsp;Halliburton, is involved as well.<span>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>Having previously done so much damage to us in Iraq (see<span>&nbsp; <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/news\/local\/chi-060423pipeline-story,0,1853590.story\">here<\/a> &nbsp;and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2006\/04\/25\/world\/middleeast\/25pipeline.html?_r=1&amp;hp&amp;ex=1146024000&amp;en=06dbad0d8a941bb0&amp;ei=5094&amp;partner=homepage\">here<\/a> &nbsp;and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chron.com\/disp\/story.mpl\/business\/3780160.html\">here<\/a>)<span>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span>while making millions for Dick Cheney,<br \/>\nHalliburton is once again <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2010\/04\/30\/halliburton-may-be-culpri_n_558481.html\">living down to its image<\/a>. &nbsp;There is no better candidate for the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/apagansblog\/2010\/04\/the-case-for-the-corporate-death-penalty.html\">corporate <\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Times\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/apagansblog\/2010\/04\/the-case-for-the-corporate-death-penalty.html\">death<br \/>\npenalty<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom:14.0pt;line-height:22.0pt\"><font face=\"Times, helvetica, hirakakupro-w3, osaka, 'ms pgothic', sans-serif\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;line-height: normal\"><br \/>\n<!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Then there is the fraud and malfeasance committed by the<br \/>\nBright Boys in Finance, bright boys who transited effortlessly from serving<br \/>\nthemselves under Bush to serving themselves under Obama.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Whether <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/news\/bank_reform\/index.html?story=\/opinion\/feature\/2010\/05\/01\/trillion_dollar_fraud\">opposing auditing<\/a> in the<br \/>\nFederal Reserve &nbsp;or stonewalling and possibly <a href=\"http:\/\/motherjones.com\/politics\/2010\/04\/daniel-sparks-goldman-sachs-hearing\">lying under testimon<\/a>y and hiding facts they should legally <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcclatchydc.com\/2010\/04\/30\/93252\/goldman-sought-to-shed-risky-mortgage.html#ixzz0mgCJvQgB\">have disclosed<\/a> &nbsp;, these parasites<span>&nbsp; <\/span>have done and<br \/>\nare continuing to do great harm to everything but their pocket books.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Whether they are convicted of breaking<br \/>\nthe law or are able to weasel out with the aid of corporate lawyers,<span>&nbsp; <\/span>political servants secretly undermining<br \/>\neffective action against them, and a compromised court system is yet to become<br \/>\nclear.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>What is clear to all but<br \/>\nthe high priest economists who provide fancy rationalizations for them is that<br \/>\nthey are parasites, frightfully effective ones.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">This miserable performance, evidencing incompetence and<br \/>\ndishonesty across the board,<span>&nbsp; <\/span>is by<br \/>\nan old ruling elite that has gamed the constitution by capturing both parties<br \/>\nwhile preventing the rise of alternatives.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>We get to choose from moderately inhumane corporatist hacks<br \/>\namong Democrats or far worse corporatist hacks and their theocratic allies with<br \/>\nthe Rebubbalicans.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Both are<br \/>\ndominated by ideas that have long since outlived their usefulness, assuming<br \/>\nthey had any to begin with.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>They<br \/>\npersist by covering for one another when the chips are down, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2010\/04\/30\/stop-robert-rubin-before_n_559465.html\">rewarding<br \/>\nincompetents <\/a>&nbsp;and penalizing the competent.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The future of this country rests on whether the natural<br \/>\npolitical antibodies this civilization can generate are up to the task of<br \/>\neliminating this combination of toxic infection and growing senility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The hope lies in Americans who <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20100501\/ap_on_re_us\/us_immigration_protests\">actually care<\/a> about the<br \/>\nprinciples our country was founded on &nbsp;and on those remaining honest people in government who might still prove that<br \/>\nour new aristocratic plutocracy <span style=\"font-family:Times\">is <\/span><span style=\"font-family:ArialMT\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2010\/04\/30\/AR2010043001336.html?hpid%3Dtopnews&amp;sub=AR\"><span style=\"font-family:Times;color:#002F76;text-decoration:none\">subject to the law like everybody else<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-family:Times\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UPDATE: Parts of this post have been polished and clarified. &nbsp;
