{"id":481,"date":"2010-01-27T15:48:33","date_gmt":"2010-01-27T15:48:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/apagansblog\/2010\/01\/cool-new-28th-constitutional-amendment-proposed.html"},"modified":"2010-01-27T15:48:33","modified_gmt":"2010-01-27T15:48:33","slug":"cool-new-28th-constitutional-amendment-proposed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/apagansblog\/2010\/01\/cool-new-28th-constitutional-amendment-proposed.html","title":{"rendered":"Cool New 28th Constitutional Amendment Proposed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:Times\">A constitutional amendment that<br \/>\nboth conservatives and liberals can support, and that would do worlds of good,<br \/>\nmight seem to good to be true, but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biotechonomy.com\/juan.htm\">Juan Enriquez<\/a> has <a href=\"http:\/\/tedchris.posterous.com\/congressional-insanity-a-dramatic-proposal\">come up with a<br \/>\nwinner<\/a>.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>A proposed 28<sup>th<\/sup><br \/>\nAmendment states<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"webkit-indent-blockquote\"><p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Times, helvetica, hirakakupro-w3, osaka, 'ms pgothic', sans-serif\">Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and\/or Representatives; and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and\/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"webkit-indent-blockquote\"><p><font face=\"Times, helvetica, hirakakupro-w3, osaka, 'ms pgothic', sans-serif\"><br \/><\/font><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:Times;color:#33312A\">The<br \/>\nconstitution bans grants of title and nobility to anyone. The reason was not<br \/>\nthe title, but that nobility and aristocracy meant that some people were<br \/>\nprivileged under the law and that the legal principles that applied to everyone<br \/>\nelse did not apply to them.<span>&nbsp;&nbsp; Those with more money or power have always sought these privileges, Congresscritters included.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:Times;color:#33312A\">Congress has<br \/>\ngotten around the Constitutional ban on nobility by not giving themselves<br \/>\ntitles, but &nbsp;making themselves a non-hereditary noblity.<span>&nbsp;
