The New York Times today has an article <\/a>on how key members of the American Catholic hierarchy had been warned by their own experts as early as 1952 not to reinstate pedophile priests because they could not be cured, and ignored it all the while lying that they did not know this.  <\/p>\n

Documents recently come to light shine a bright beam on this affair, contradicting “the most consistent defense given by bishops
\nabout the sexual abuse scandal: that they were unaware until recently
\nthat offenders could not be rehabilitated and returned to the ministry.”  Ten years later, in 1962, a similar latter was sent to the Vatican, and to the Pope himself in 1963.  They were ignored.<\/p>\n

Maybe the lunatic who commented that we Pagans will end up supporting pedophilia because we believe gays should not be discriminated against should spend more of his time worrying about a portion of his fellow Christians.  For the rest of us who have more sense, this is yet another example of officials in organizations consistently covering abuses that might make them look bad in the short run, even if it means they will look even worse in the long run. <\/p>\n
