There is a beautiful Sufi saying that I love and use as a rule of thought, especially in times when I am about to have a discussion with someone who is struggling or we need to have a conversation that could be taken personally, out of context or is difficult to approach. It also serves as a good reminder to remember in all aspects of your life. It goes like this…

a sufi saying

Before you speak,

Let your words pass through three gates.

At the first gate, ask yourself, “Is it true?”

At the second gate, ask yourself “Is it Necessary?”

At the third gate ask “Is it kind?”

It is a good guide to use as a filter for our words, but it also can serve as a good reminder to each of us in we how we treat ourselves. Sometimes we are our harshest critics and how we speak and feel about ourselves has a great affect on what happens in our lives. Become more conscious of the words, while they are just words, they are powerful, like magic, and it is up to us to choose how we use them.

Your angel guidance for today is to become more aware of your words and ask yourselves these beautiful questions before you speak, before your hold or own a thought about yourself or someone else let is pass through these three gates. As we become more conscious and aware of the power of our thoughts and words, it is amazing how situations begin to change and take on a new spiritual dimension.

**Sufism is simply the name for the inner or esoteric dimension of Islam and is generally understood by scholars and Sufis to be the inner, mystical, or psycho-spiritual dimension of Islam.
