With the new smartphones, iPads, tablets and everything else it is now<br \/>\neasier than ever to stay socially plugged in, but is there a risk to our mental<br \/>\nhealth because of this constant bombardment of information?<\/p>\n<p>When considering your use of technology do you find that:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>You simply have to have access to your social<br \/>\nmedia sites at all times?<\/li>\n<li>You ask people you are talking to wait or<br \/>\n&#8220;hold that thought&#8221; when you see a new post has been added or someone<br \/>\nhas made a comment on your accounts?<\/li>\n<li>You avoid activities that limit your ability to<br \/>\nstay connected to the online world?<\/li>\n<li>You are sneaking time at work or from your<br \/>\nfamily to connect with people online that you have never actually met?<\/li>\n<li>You fill uneasy or uncomfortable when you cannot<br \/>\nhave access to the internet in some form?<\/li>\n<li>You lie to others about your online time or your<br \/>\nFacebook, Twitter or social media use?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Internet use and addiction has become an area of controversy<br \/>\nwith many addiction therapists, counselors and experts in the field. There is<br \/>\nno doubt that some people have addictive like behaviors around the use of<br \/>\nsocial media and the need to constantly be in touch. Recognizing the line<br \/>\nbetween enjoyment of the social media and an addiction is often problematic,<br \/>\nespecially as younger and younger people grow up with constant access to their<br \/>\nonline world and friends.<\/p>\n<p>At the point where the need to be online starts to create<br \/>\nproblems at work, home or in a relationship there is a strong possibility there<br \/>\nis an addictive component.
