{"id":2380,"date":"2012-03-21T10:00:29","date_gmt":"2012-03-21T10:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/americainuniform\/?p=2380"},"modified":"2012-03-12T04:41:21","modified_gmt":"2012-03-12T04:41:21","slug":"corporal-megan-leavey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/americainuniform\/2012\/03\/corporal-megan-leavey.html","title":{"rendered":"Corporal Megan Leavey and Sergeant Rex"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you haven\u2019t read in the news, there is a Marine team that is looking to be reunited. \u00a0Corporal Megan Leavey (Marine Dog handler) has desired to care for her one time partner, \u201cSergeant Rex\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Qui<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/americainuniform\/files\/2012\/03\/leavey-rex2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2465\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/293\/2012\/03\/leavey-rex2-191x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"191\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>ck story:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>On deployment number two to Afg, we had several of these dynamic duo teams that made a big difference. \u00a0Well one day one of those teams was attacked by an IED. \u00a0The Marine lost both legs. \u00a0The dog\u2019s condition unknown. \u00a0The Marine was medivacd to a shock trauma unit where he was saved and sedated. \u00a0Guess what the first question to the surgeons was just before they put him under? \u00a0How is my dog?<\/p>\n<p>This is where I came in.\u00a0 At about 0100 in the morning I was involved in the fight still in our Command Center when I got a radio call asking how the dog was. \u00a0After confirming a couple times we sent the radio traffic that the dog made it through without a scratch. \u00a0The wounded Marine was already heavily sedated and flown to Germany, then the States. \u00a0The clock started. \u00a0After the fight was completed we began devising a savvy plan that only Marines can to have that dog at the Marine\u2019s bedside when he came out of surgery. \u00a0I had about 72ish hours.\u00a0 Through some cigar trading and care package donating, the dog was on an Air Force aircraft to the States just behind the Marine.\u00a0 I would have paid to have seen the Marine&#8217;s face when he woke up from surgery and the first thing he saw was his loyal K9 Marine waiting for him by his bed.<\/p>\n<p>Courtesy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.onemarinesview.com\/one_marines_view\/\"><strong>One Marine\u2019s View<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.myfoxny.com\/dpp\/news\/marine-seeks-to-adopt-military-dog-20120309#ixzz1oo4ipY00\"><strong>Click here<\/strong><\/a> to read the MyFox article about Corporal Megan Leavey (Marine Dog handler) and \u201cSergeant Rex\u201d and also to watch the video.<\/p>\n<p>Courtesy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myfoxny.com\/\"><strong>My Fox New York<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>Loyal Subscribers!\u00a0 We need some help.\u00a0 The purpose of our &#8220;Heart&#8221;
