Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”-Galatians 6:9-10

Christians are called to do good. This is obvious. What is not as obvious is how to go about it. Paul offers three powerful insights in Galatians 6:9-10 for our journey. First, we are to “not become weary.” Why? We reap a harvest if we do not give up. This isn’t talking about wheat or money, but rather results. Doing good will result in a life well lived. Plus, we change the lives around us in the process.

Second, we are to do good “to all people.” Christians don’t get to avoid the segments of people they do not like. We are called to unconditional love shown through actions to all people, whether they believe like us or ever do.

Third, we are to “especially” do good to other believers. Family is our priority. We seek to help everyone we can, but our spiritual family comes before others.

Where are you on your journey today? Weary? Feeling a bit too “conditional” in your service to others? Struggling to show love to your spiritual family? Wherever you are, remember to “do good.” Begin with the moment you have now, move forward without growing weary, and trust God with the results.

+++

DILLON BURROUGHS is an author, activist, and co-founder of Activist Faith.
