However, some have been asking me about specific Christian organizations they can support that are serving on the ground. <\/p>\n<p>As of now, two great initiatives taking place are from <a href=\"http:\/\/worldvision.org\/\">World Vision<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.samaritanspurse.org\/index.php\/articles\/pray_for_japan\/\">Samaritan&#8217;s Purse<\/a>. In fact, Samaritan&#8217;s Purse, the agency founded by Franklin Graham, son of the renowned evangelist Billy Graham, provides the following story of their current plans. This is a great way to show our faith to those in need. Please continue to pray and support the Japanese people in these and other ways as you are able. Thanks!<\/i><\/p>\n<p>From Samaritan&#8217;s Purse:<\/p>\n<p>+++<\/p>\n<p>\nAt the request of Japanese Christians, Samaritan&#8217;s Purse has deployed<br \/>\na team to provide emergency relief aid to people affected by the deadly<br \/>\nearthquake and massive tsunami that hit the northeastern coast of the<br \/>\ncountry on March 11.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.samaritanspurse.org\/index.php\/Giving\/Project_donations?pc=13953\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.samaritanspurse.org\/images\/donatenow_plain.gif\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Staff<br \/>\nmembers are on their way to the affected area. We will be working with<br \/>\nlocal churches to distribute food, water, blankets, hygiene supplies,<br \/>\nand other aid to people who have lost virtually everything.<\/p>\n<p><b>Ken Isaacs, the Samaritan&#8217;s Purse Vice President of Projects, was<br \/>\ninterviewed by WBTV in Charlotte before he boarded a plane to Japan.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Our Japanese church partners have secured five trucks and begun<br \/>\npurchasing supplies such as blankets, hygiene supplies, food, water, and<br \/>\nfirst aid items. Our partners have secured permission for us to enter<br \/>\nthe disaster zone. Local believers are being mobilized to volunteer to<br \/>\nhelp with the response.<\/p>\n<p>Samaritan&#8217;s Purse President Franklin Graham has conducted evangelistic<br \/>\nFestivals in the Japanese cities of Osaka and Okinawa, and we have<br \/>\nhundreds of church partners in the country. <br \/>\nRev. Takada, who was chairman of the Osaka Festival committee, requested our assistance.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Please come. We need your help,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The massive tsunami was triggered by an 8.9-magnitude earthquake, one of<br \/>\nthe most powerful in recorded history. Giant waves engulfed coastal<br \/>\ntowns and swept away houses, cars, boats, and trains. <\/p>\n<p>The quake has been followed by dozens of strong aftershocks. Japan&#8217;s<br \/>\nprime minister called the crisis the most severe challenge the nation<br \/>\nhas faced since World War II. Officials have declared a state of<br \/>\nemergency for a nation grieving the loss of so many lives while gripped<br \/>\nby fear of more quakes and possible radiation leaks from damaged nuclear<br \/>\nreactors at two power plants.<\/p>\n<p>The twin disasters have devastated hundreds of towns and villages in<br \/>\nnortheast Japan. The official death toll reached 1,833 on Monday, but is<br \/>\nexpected to soar to more than 10,000.
