Courtney Thorne-Smith is an actress known for her starring roles as Alison Parker on “Melrose Place,” Georgia Thomas on “Ally McBeal,” and Cheryl Mabel on “According to Jim,” as well as her recurring role on “Two and a Half Men” as Lyndsey McElroy.

Thorne-Smith was born in San Francisco and grew up in Menlo Park, a suburb of San Francisco. Her father was a computer market researcher, and her mother was a therapist, but the couple divorced when Courtney was seven years old. She performed with the Ensemble Theater Company in Mill Valley while attending high school. The actress made her first film appearance in the 1986 film “Lucas” alongside Corey Haim, Winona Ryder, and Charlie Sheen. She was also involved in numerous movies in the late 80s.

Those films include “Welcome to 18,” “Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise,” “Summer School,” and “Side Out.” In 1998, Thorne-Smith starred in “Chairman of the Board” with Carrot Top. She also appeared in 2009’s “Sorority Wars.” Thorne-Smith appeared on a few television shows in the mid-80s, like “Growing Pains” and “Fast Times.” In 1988, she landed a regular role in the sitcom “Day by Day” with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Douglas Sheehan, and Linda Kelsey. In 1990, she was featured in several episodes of “L.A. Law” as Laker Girl Kimberly Dugan.

Still, the actress’ first notable starring role was as Alison Parker on “Melrose Place” from 1992 to 1997. After that role, she went on to play Georgia Thomas on “Ally McBeal” from 1997 to 2000. She originally auditioned for the title role of the show, which ultimately went to Calista Flockhart. Thorne-Smith’s character was written out of “Ally McBeal” at the beginning of season four in 2000, though she returned for occasional guest appearances. She later said she left the show in part due to the pressure to stay thin.

Thorne-Smith told US Weekly, “I started undereating, overexercising, pushing myself too hard and brutalizing my immune system. The amount of time I spent thinking about food and being upset about my body was insane.”
