Jerry Stiller was born on June 8, 1927 and raised in New York City. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and upon his return from service he began a successful acting career.

In 1953, Stiller met Ann Meara, a fellow actor-comedian, and they were married in 1954. In 1961, they started performing together in New York City nightclubs. The comedy duo was successful in the 1960s and 1970s with numerous appearances on TV variety programs.

From 1993 to 1998, Stiller played the part of Frank Costanza on the sitcom Seinfeld. Stiller gained widespread popular acclaim, including an Emmy nomination and an American Comedy Award for Funniest Male Guest Appearance in a TV Series in 1996. After Seinfeld ended, Stiller joined the cast of the sitcom The King of Queens.

Stiller was married to Anne Meara until her death in May of 2015. Together they had two children, daughter Amy Stiller and son, actor-comedian Ben Stiller. Jerry passed away from natural causes on May 11, 2020.
