Caitlyn Jenner, known as Bruce Jenner until 2015, is a media personality and former Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete. Jenner played college football for the Graceland Yellowjackets before suffering a knee injury that required surgery. Convinced by Olympic decathlete Jack Parker’s coach, L.D. Weldon, to try the decathlon, Jenner had a six-year decathlon career, ending with winning the men’s decathlon event at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, setting a third successive world record and gaining fame as “an all-American hero.”

Jenner established a career in film, television, writing, business, and auto racing, as well as a Playgirl cover model. She has six kids with three successive wives, Chrystie Crownover, Linda Thompson, and Kris Jenner, and from 2007 to 2021, appeared on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” with Kris, their daughters Kylie and Kendall Jenner, as well as Kris’s other children from her previous marriage, Kourtney, Kim, Khloe and Rob Kardashian. In April 2015, Jenner publicly came out as a trans woman, announcing her new name in July of that year. From 2015 to 2016, she starred in the reality series “I Am Cait,” which focused on her gender transition. At the time of her coming out, she’d been called the most famous trans woman in the world.

Jenner is a transgender rights activist, although several other LGBTQ+ activists have criticized her views on transgender issues. As a member of the Republican Party, Jenner ran in the 2021 California gubernatorial recall election, finishing 13th with one percent of the vote. Six months after the election, Fox News hired Jenner as an on-air contributor. Jenner was born in Mount Kisco, New York, as William Bruce Jenner. Her younger brother Burt was killed in a car accident in Connecticut shortly after Jenner’s success at the Olympic Games. She was also diagnosed with dyslexia as a child. She attended Sleepy Hollow High School for her first and second years and Newtown High School for her junior and senior years.

Jenner earned a football scholarship and attended Graceland College, now Graceland University, in Lamoni, Iowa, but was forced to stop playing football due to a knee injury. Recognizing Jenner’s potential, Graceland track coach L.D. Weldon encouraged her to switch to the decathlon. In 1970, Jenner debuted as a decathlete in the Drake Relays decathlon in Des Moines, Iowa, finishing in fifth place. She graduated from Graceland College in 1973 with a degree in physical education.

What religion is Caitlyn Jenner?

Caitlyn Jenner identifies as a Christian. She said she still goes to church often and believes in faith and God. However, that relationship made her struggle with her identity. She said, “To me, my faith played a very big role in what I’m doing. Growing up, I would think to myself, ‘Why did God put all these questions in my head?’” As she was making her final decision about transitioning, Jenner had a long discussion with her pastor.

She continued, “In the end, when I talk about faith, the last person besides my family, my close friends, the last hurdle I had to get over to know I was doing the right thing in transitioning was my faith and with God.”
