We never have enough time to tackle the insane to-do lists at work, home or at school. We are a fatigued nation of people overworked, overspent, unhealthy and let's face it we are running on fumes of caffeine and sugar. The reasons that were in such a mess could be that our adrenal glands are overworked, we're physical and mentally wasted or we have a poor diet. “Fatigue is the No. 1 complaint I hear from my patients and from the general public,” said Beverly Hills author and endocrinologist Eva Cwynar, M.D. “Women are told it’s either in their head or it’s because they’re having kids, raising kids, managing the household, working too hard or getting old." Some experts believe this is also the age tiredness. We have the inability to switch off and to relax. This can come from the overuse of technology, checking emails when we should be resting, work demands or obligations at home. Americans are not sleeping well and it's making matters worse. Forty-five percent of Americans are sleeping 7 hours a night and they still reported feeling tired or fatigued. If we can barely get out of bed during the week and are overusing the snooze button on the weekends, there needs to be a rescue. Here are 6 simple methods on how to enhance our energy.

Drink More Water

This appears simple, but as we mentioned most of us live on caffeine to keep going, and this will dehydrate you. Fatigue can be a sign of dehydration no matter if you work inside or outdoors. Some symptoms of dehydration to look out for could be an increased craving for salt and sugar or having dry skin. Another sign of dehydration is poor driving. Science Direct found that mild hypohydration produced a significant increase in minor driving errors during a "Monotonous drive compared to that observed while performing the same in a hydrated condition." Additionally, we lose water every day, so it's crucial to hydrate to ward off tiredness. Opt for drinking water instead of drinking another can of cola for a swift fix that won't last. Also, watch your salt intake as this will dehydrate and cause water weight.

Get Sleep

A lack of sleep can destroy the body. Sleeping is more than feeling rested it can influence your overall well-being. A lack of sleep can contribute to depression, make you moody, increase the risk for heart attacks, strokes, cause weight gain and will make you tired. “People who are persistently sleep deprived are more likely to have high blood pressure and diabetes. Brain cells need a lot of oxygen and sugar, so blood flow problems could affect their ability to work properly," Harvard Health found. To combat insomnia, take a warm bath before bed, read or take herbal remedies like melatonin or valerian root. Avoid eating large meals before bed because it interferes with sleep. Try practicing yoga or do meditation to help calm the body and mind down.

Reduce Stress

If we want to boost energy, we need to obstruct the stress operating in our lives. Psychological tiredness can turn on the stress hormone cortisol which can drain us. If worrying, stress, trauma and negative thoughts are being repressed it takes a lot out of the body. "You may have lived with stress for so long that you no longer see the negative consequences. You believe that this is normal," healthcentral.com reported. "You may not know what is wrong with you and have accepted the constant feeling of being tired as part of your life." Stress will suppress the immune system making it harder for the body to fight off bacteria and viruses because it’s already fighting an internal battle. Use relaxation techniques, do yoga, pray or start meditation practices to help. Daily exercise can help combat stress and will produce endorphins, which makes us happier. Also, make time once a week to do what brings happiness. This can be a hobby or it can be following a favorite television show.

Lose Weight

Losing weight could help you against fatigue. Gaining just 10 pounds will cause fatigue because this causes the body to work harder. Cut back on junk food and start reducing portion sizes. Americans consume an estimated 60 pounds of a sugar per year and since sugar is an another crutch for people who are tired, we need to reduce our intake to lose weight. Sugar fuels depression puts people at a higher risk for heart issues and is actually poison to the body in excess. Eating fewer calories is always the better route. When you are feeling hungry drink more water as this could be a sign the body needs more water, not food. With every pound that you lose, the more steam the body will have.

Use Color

There is power by implementing color into our lives as it can help our health, mood and vigor. Using color therapy can help the body generate energy and create a sense of satisfaction. Colors like red and yellow can be beneficial when dealing with tiredness. Red is an emotionally charged color and it is linked to authority, love and determination. Red is also associated with enthusiasm and anticipation since the color sends subconscious information that can affect the emotions. Red is also a symbol of good luck, bravery and it can enhance the metabolism. Yellow can help our mood and can make us feel cheerful, optimistic and energetic just as adequately as the color red can. Adding red and yellow to the closet will unquestionably boost vitality.
