“Diet” and “nutrition” are not the same thing, says Venuto, who holds a degree in exercise science and has worked in the fitness industry since 1989, including 14 years as a personal trainer. He says “words are loaded with meaning between the lines. Few are more semantically loaded than 'diet.' What comes up when you think of diet? Restriction? Forbidden foods ? Banned food groups? What you can ‘never eat’? Hunger ? Gimmicks? Fads/trends (that pass or come and go in cycles)? Quick fixes (often unhealthy or dangerous)”
