Hidden away in the inner nature of the real man is the law of his life, and someday he will discover it and consciously make use of it. He will heal himself, make himself happy and prosperous, and life in an entirely different world. For he will have discovered that life is from within and not from without.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

From "One Minute Wellness" by Dr. Ben Lerner with Dr. Greg Loman:

The fact is, genetics are a tendency, not a death sentence. Genes for heart disease, breast cancer, mental, emotional disorders, etc., are like the trigger on a gun-they're only dangerous if you pull them. Inside of just one nucleus in one of your fifty trillion cells is six feet of DNA material. This is similar to cramming thirty miles of wire into a cherry pit. This DNA comes in forty-six different sections called chromosomes, which is subdivided into your genes. These genes encode information for molecules that perform a bewildering number of functions. We barely have a glimpse of the monstrous complexity of genes and how they specifically affect our behaviors and respective biology. To say that a "gene" causes obesity, depression, alcoholism, or chocolate addiction is insane. We truly don't understand 5 percent of what's going on, and that percentage never improves because with each new discovery, we also discover that there's even more mystery.

When it comes to cellular success, it's nurture and not nature that makes the biggest difference. The vast majority of diseases we face aren't due to our poor DNA. Dr. Lipton shares that "single gene disorders affect less than 2 percent of the population"! That means 98 percent of us are born with the ability to live with outrageous health and incredible happiness. These new discoveries show us that there is an ongoing creative power in our lives, and we are not "fated" at birth to feel a certain way, act a certain way, behave a certain way, and die a certain way at a certain time. No. At this point we know that we have something to say about that. The diseases, depression, aches, and pains we face today are not the results of dysfunctional grandparents, but because we've lived and thought in such a way that it created disharmony in our bodies.

"It's the environment, not the DNA," says Dr. Lipton. "When I provide a healthy environment for my cells (under the microscope), they thrived; when the environment was less than optimal, the cells faltered. (Most importantly,) when I adjusted the environment, these `sick' cells revitalized."

You can no longer shift the blame for your present or future problems away from you and simply rely on the medical establishment anymore.

You must take responsibility for your well-being. Any negative, unloving, stressful attitude, any manipulation of the body, any removal of parts, any interference to normal function, or any artificial invader (such as medications and refined, artificial, chemical-laden, or genetically modified foods in your diet) entering the body will later this natural, safe internal environment, throw it out of balance, and cause chaos in the cellular community. This will create an incredible disadvantage to cellular survival and reduce the quality of life. It will show up as pain, depression, disease, and a general failure to thrive.

"Where science once sought the replacement of God, today's cutting-edge scientists, when asked if they believed in God, would say, "Of course I do. I'm a scientist." -Dr. Greg Loman
