Slow down – It’s easy to rush meals and plow through food the second it is placed in front of you. Try taking a moment before you eat to stop, breathe, and bring your awareness fully to the table and the present moment. Then begin eating, slowly… very slowly. Chew each bite as many times as possible, aiming for at least 10 to 20 chews per bite, and concentrate on each one. Try putting your fork down in between bites if you are tempted to move quickly. In addition to enjoying your food more, a recent study out of Texas Christian University indicates that eating slower can decrease the number of calories you consume as well as make you feel fuller longer.
