The Second Truth
Others’ rejection is our freedom.
When we are younger, our survival depends on our winning others’ approval. One of the greatest gifts of age is being able to more fully embrace our authentic selves, not caring so much about others’ opinions. Of course, this is easier said than done and old habits sometimes are hard to break. But on the other side of worrying about what others think about us is the fresh air of liberation. In the words of author Joan Chittister: “This is the moment for which we were born.”
