When I finally get around to exercise time I am either exhausted or in a lazy type of mood. What can I do to crack the laziness so I can get into shape? The solution to this problem is to make "exercise time" your first priority. If you’re too exhausted or tired, then it’s much too hard work, and certainly no fun! What I do is this: I think of it not as "exercise" but as some physically enjoyable "activity" or "re-creation." I also make sure to do an activity as close to first thing in the morning as possible, every morning. Never "finally." I also make it a point to do something that I enjoy. I love walking and hiking, so I do that several times a week. I also really, really love to dance, so I make sure to dance a few times a week. I love to dance, especially with my wife, or with friends. I am a wild dancer! I don’t care if I look silly. I just flail my arms and kick my legs, and shake my behind to the beat. If I cannot find a dance partner, then I put on a CD or satellite radio and dance with God. Making movement a first priority is important to me. I totally understand that at the end of a day it’s hard to move. Truth is, being physically active in the morning, on a regular, disciplined basis gives me more energy throughout the day. Moving my body feels good – it’s not work anymore. Once I overcome the inertia of getting started, I feel great, and want to do it again the next morning.
