There's a part of us - usually hidden and buried - that's dark, moody, fearful, scared. Of course we don't like that part. It's natural to want to avoid feeling bad or fearful. But those feelings are there, though, in everyone. It's a part of being balanced.
If you hate that part of yourself and ignore that dark side, it will only get stronger. It will do anything, play tricks on you and haunt you until you acknowledge and accept it.
