The way I lost weight (160 pounds) and kept it off (over 15 years now) was to learn to eat ordinary food (not diet food), in smaller quantities. I also learned to be sure to combine protein, grains, and either a fruit or vegetable every time I ate. That way I never, ever feel hungry before it’s time for my next meal, and I automatically eat a nutritious mix of foods. Now, I’m maintaining my weight. I eat absolutely anything, including desserts, fried foods, and occasionally ice cream and candy. The trick is to have them in small quantities, not like I used to eat them. How can I do that? How can I go ahead and eat the foods that were "triggers" before, the foods that used to send me into uncontrollable bingeing? God is with me, now, that’s the secret. I eat to be an instrument of God’s will. I eat well, knowing that I am liberated from the pain of overeating, and the suffering of being out-of-control.
