It's my birthday today, and my husband and friends are having a party for me. May I have my cake and eat it too, like the old adage says? I'm so glad you asked, because it's my birthday today, too! My wife, and sister, and our kids are having a party for me, and yes, I DEFINITELY plan on having some cake and eating it, too. I will have only one piece, however, no seconds. And I have been aware of my carbohydrates, every day, and have saved up some for cake. Since cake and icing are mostly sugar and fat, I have not had much in the way of carbs and fat today, but have, instead, planned ahead for tonight. I've had mostly fruit for breakfast, vegetables for lunch, and will have a fruit snack before dinner. I love cake, especially birthday cake, and really, really want some now! What a joy to not deprive myself. Instead of getting my pleasure only from food like I used to, I count my blessings. What a joy to still be alive another year. How wonderful to be human, and to be able to love God, and do His will, and also to be with my family and friends. And to be able to write to you, dear reader, and be a part of the Beliefnet family! On another note, I do want to say that I have spent a few birthdays without cake, or dessert. When I was losing my last 80 pounds a few years back, I had several years with no sugar or fat. I was asking God to help me lose between 1-3 pounds a week, so I did my part, too. I had only vegetables and protein for birthday dinner then, and a small piece of bread. I also invited a lot of health-conscious and spiritually-oriented friends, and we had a wonderful time together. I didn't need the desserts; the sweetness came from love and friendship. Remember, there's nothing forbidden on my JOY OF WEIGHT LOSS Food Plan. Just be careful to limit the amount of sweets and fats in a day. Just don't have cake every day. By the way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
