Recovery from weight-loss surgery

Obesity is a serious problem in out country. There are surgical procedures available when all other avenues have failed, but they are NOT easy.

My wife is/was morbidly obese. After years of failed diet attempts, and seeing her aunt die of complications of obesity a couple of years ago, she discovered the possibility of "bariatric surgery" as a method to help her regain control of her weight.

She was told recently by a doctor that she'd be lucky to have another 20 years to live. She turns thirty this year. Her website about this surgery can be found at http://castle.thecoventree.com/mulberryalcove. We hope that her struggles can help someone else.

Also, this surgery effects not only the patient, but everyone that they know. After the surgery, they're really a completely different person than before. Everything changes, and it can be difficult for everyone involved.

	Geordon 4/23/2001 10:43	Geordon here. Just wanted to let you all know that this surgery is most definitely NOT an easy thing to contend with, after the fact. Everything that you know about the patient (or the patient themselves!) changes, in relation to food. Food tolerances change, tastes change, everything changes. I'll have to get to know my wife all over again, from the begining. Kristen hopes that her experiences can help other people know what to expect and maybe even help to save lives. Morbid obesity is a killer, literally.
