Me

I need help in overcoming addiction

I'm not sure if we are allowed to request prayers for ourselves but this is also for my family. I'm a mom of 4 children and I'm married.

I've been addicted to alcohol since I was sixteen. I've tried all different courses of treatment but I always end back at square one. I've turned my problems over to God but I must be doing something wrong. My drinking is really starting to cause problems in my marriage.

My dad committed suicide a year ago after battling alcoholism all his life.

I know this isn't the course God wanted me to be on. I started college (I'm 36) and I'm really proud of that. I eventually want to be a nurse but I want to be a good nurse not a hungover one.

My mom always said if two or more pray for the same concern, God will answer.

I want to be sober more than anything, I want my kids (17, 13, 7 and 2) to not have to worry about me anymore. Or to hear the fights it causes.

Any prayers would be trmendously appreciated

God Bless you all, Lauren

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." -Galatians 5:1

"or you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."" Romans 8:15

Lord, I pray that you rain down mercy and love on Lauren. Send her the spirit of freedom from her addiction and fill any void in her life with your spirit so there will be no need for alcohol. Father, all of us are weak and we need your grace just to survive each day and I thank you for everything you've already given us. Please help Lauren through this, for with you all things are possible. In the name of your son, I ask all things.

God, after having lived myself the miracle of freedom from alcohol addiction I ask You to help Lauren. Knowing that You created her to be happy and free to enjoy the little wonders of living one day at a time, please give her the strength, faith and hope to recovery. Help her do Your Will, which I know is not to have that first drink that leads her to be the person she does not want to be. In case Lauren is like me, that was not able to stop drinking by myself, I ask you Lord to give her the humility to ask for help. There is help out there, she can recover from alcoholism. May You show her the path toward it. Amen

Father in the blessed name of Jesus your son we bring Lauren your child to you - you knew her Lord in the womb you have counted every hair on her head and love her with a love that surpasses all understanding. In the name of Jesus we come against and bind the spirit of alcohol that is dominating her - we bind all past curses and demons/spirits of alcohol from family decendants nad previous generations and pray that she and all her descendants will be released and freed from all addictions.
Bless her family and protect them from the effects that this disease is causing. We beleive Lord that when you set us free we shall be free indeed. I pray that Lauren will place herself in a place of spiritual help where people can lift her up and pray for her in your wonderful name AMEN

Alchoholism is a hereditary disease that can only be controlled with the help of a "Higher Power". If you Let Go and Let God, he will do for us what we cannot do for ourselves. I am a recovering alcoholic that finally sought help when I was 38. I am now 41. I am one of the fortunate ones (like you) that realized that there must be an "out"...I just had to find it. Your family can be supportive but this is an individual effort. Pick up the Big book and just read. You'll be amazed to see how many of us have the same feelings as you. The hardest thing you will do is go to an AA meeting - but it can your life. Just give the 800 number a call to find a local meeting and go and just listen. You don't need to talk. You'll be so relieved to know you're not alone. Only other alcoholics really "get it" and they are the ones that will keep you on the path of recovery. If you're "sick and tired of being sick and tired", what do you have to lose?

Dear Lord,
Please send to Laurens side Your powerful angels to fight beside her against this monster called alcoholism. She is in a place now in which she is ready to give the good fight and she is counting with the right one, You, almighty and merciful. Restore her according to Your will and restore also her loved ones. I ask for this in Jesus name, Amen.

Dear Lord:
You know every thought Lauren has and you are with her every step of the way. Give her the strength to turn her life over to your care. Give her the willingness to give you her all. Be with her family during this difficult time as you know the difficulties they are experiencing. Being a recovering alcoholic myself you have carried me when I could do nothing else. Give her the peace and comfort at this time. Amen

Dear Lord, please lift up and carry Lauren in this time of need. Surround her with the love and powerful presence of the Holy Spirit. Give Lauren, her husband, and her children the strength and guidance to overcome this addiction. Help Lauren remember the following:

The light of God surrounds me;
The love of God enfolds me;
The power of God Protects me;
The presence of God watches over me;
Wherever I am; God is.

Lord - we bow before your Holy Throne and ask for grace and mercy for this mother and young woman who recognizes that her addiction is destroying her life and affecting the lives of her young children. We ask that you will give her strength and courage to face this constant battle - strenghten her Lord with your shield of power that will fight all evil - and all sin. Forgive her her sins and help her chose the right path -hold her hand and guide her steps - heal her Lord as only you can do that her life may be a witess to others who suffer addiction and a light to beaken them to your Cross for forgiveness and guidance. We pray this prayer in the name of your son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Lord, in every need let me come to You with humble trust saying, "Jesus, help me."
In all my doubts, perplexities, and temptations, Jesus, help me.
In hours of loneliness, weariness, and trials, Jesus, help me.
In the failure of my plans and hopes; in disappointments, troubles, and sorrows, Jesus, help me.
When others fail me and Your grace alone can assist me, help me.
When I throw myself on Your tender love as a father and savior, Jesus, help me.
When my heart is cast down by failure at seeing no good come from my efforts, Jesus, help me.
When I feel impatient and my cross irritates me, Jesus, help me.
When I am ill and my head and hands cannot work and I am lonely, Jesus, help me.
Always, always, in spite of weakness, falls, and shortcomings of every kind, Jesus, help me and never forsake me.

Lauren: I was suffering in darkness because of alcoholism. I lost my daughter, my marriage was tortured, I had no self-respect. I could not have stopped drinking and stayed sober without the help of dear friends in AA. By the grace of God and the fellowship of AA I have not had a drink in three years. AA is not a cult; it is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other. It is a spiritual program of action in which we admit no human power could have relieved our alcoholism, but God could and would if He were sought. I strongly recommend you find an AA "home group"--a group that meets regularly that you attend, become part of and let people there get to know you. The odds against any one of us real alcoholics getting and staying sober are so great, and AA has worked for millions like us.

Go to meetings. Don't drink. And, say this prayer: "God, I offer myself to You, to build with me and do with me as You will. Relieve me of the bondage of self and take away my difficulties, that victory over them might bear witness to those I would help of Your power, Your love and Your way of life. May I do Your will always,
Amen."
This is the 3rd step prayer from the book, "Alcoholics Anonymous."
God bless you,

Dear Lauren,
I can understand your concerns. The one thing you need to do, along with prayer and faith, is to get a good physical with blood work. I, too have a family history of alcoholism, but because of my occupation (truckdriver), I used a very legal, and available drug called sugar. Susan Powter(the bald chick on TV) wrote a book a few years ago that made me think that my sugar addiction was actually alcohol addiction in a different form! Her thinking is that our brains are lacking in certain chemicals and or vitamins and other nutrionals and we "feed" it, either with sugar or alcohol -which are actually of very similar makeup.
By eliminating all types of sugar, from ketchup, potatoes, Twinkies, fruit juices and the like, you may be able to handle withdrawing from alcohol a little easier.
Do you have a family history of diabetes?
Late November, I was told I had medium diabetic nerve damaged in my eyes.
I had known that I was a diabetic for years - I called myself a non-practicing diabetic, because I didn't want to give up my sugar - I LIVED for sugar....I had my stash..God help the child that got into my stash...Does this not sound like an addiction to you?
I gave up sugar Dec 1, 2005 - After the first 3 weeks or so, and a couple of temper tantrums at Christmas, I honestly say I feel better, and my complection has never looked as clear, I have more energy, and can look forward to saving my eyesight. Lauren, giving up sugar or alcohol won't be easy. However, God has promised YOU, that He will be there for you, and you can turn to Him.
If anyone would like to contact me personally to talk about this. I can be reached at; tippytoesntexas@hotmail.com

Dear Heavenly Father,
We ask that you give Lauren the resourses, knowledge and encouragement that she needs to overcome her alcohol addiction. Father, we know that Satan is at the root of this problem, and we also know that you are the ultimate up-rooter and destoyer of any of Satan's powers over your child, Lauren. We claim Lauren has been made a free person over alcohol enticements. Let Lauren feel your presence, and your love. In your name we pray for strength for Lauren today, and forever. We give You our praise for Your help, Thank you Father.
