LEANNE FREEMAN
MYSELF

GOING BACK TO SCHOOL

I HAVE DECIDED THAT I NEED TO BETTER MYSELF FOR MY 3 CHILDREN. SO I HAVE DECIDED THAT THE BEST WAY TO DO THAT IS GO BACK TO SCHOOL. I AM GOING TO HAVE TO GET MY G.E.D. FIRST. THEN I HAVE TO DECIDE WHAT I WANT TO DO EXACTLY. THEN I GET TO GO TO COLLEGE. I AM VERY SCARED ABOUT THE WHOLE THING. I AM ALMOST 27 YRS OLD AND I HAVE 3 KIDS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. THIS WILL BE A BIG CHANGE FOR MY WHOLE FAMILY. I'M AFRAID THAT I'LL FAIL AT THIS LIKE I HAVE SO MANY THINGS IN THE PAST. I'M JUST SO SCARED ABOUT IT ALL. ALL YOUR PRAYERS WILL BE VERY APPRECIATED AND WELCOMED.

Dear Leanne, Hello! I know how you feel. I have 3 kids as well and my oldest is 13. Im only 30 so I started young and quit school to take care of my son. I have been wanting to get my GED for years but have been so afraid of failing. I was never really that smart in school because I never really applied myself. Now that I have been out of school for so long I feel I forgot everthing! I Know how you feel! I will pray for you, I just wanted to let you know your not the only one! Please have faith in yourself! Best of luck, Kerry

Hi, Leanne: I have tutored people for GED testing, and helped them prepare. Many of us who have had low self esteem regarding our ability to learn are in for a great surprise, if we just apply ourselves. Sometimes it takes that measure of maturity that you now have to accomplish a goal. I am 53 years old and just now dealing with my highschool hangups over algebra. And, I am doing pretty well. My prayer for you is that you persevere, that you find positive advisors to support you on your way. You can do it, girl! Marie

Leanne, it is great that your realize that you need to change things for your sake and that of your children. So, how are you going to "eat an elephant?" One bite at a time. Pray each step of your way, that you get to class on time, that you have good instructors, that you answer one question correctly, then pray for the next. It is all a process, it took years to get where you are, good or bad, and it will take time to move on from there. Find the blessings in your current situation, study with your 13 year old, tutor the younger ones. Celebrate each accomplishment. Don't accept setbacks, go around, over or through them. You have choices, and they will reveal themselves to you. My best prayers are with you, Jackie

Dear Leeanne: That you have even come as far as to make the BIG decision to return to school says alot about you as a person. Once you have made the decision, half the battle is over. Not even knowing you, I have all the faith in the world that if you make up your mind to succeed, you will. My prayers are with you! Karon

Dear Leeanne~I will hold you in my prayers that God will lead you to the success you deserve. He is always with us, even when at times we feel we need a little more answers from him, he is guiding us in his own way to do our best. Good luck with your decisions and bless you and your family. Lori

Dear Leeanne~ I read you letter as a new member. I wanted to lend my support as a mother of three who has been in your shoes. IN 1990 I went back to school at the age of 26. I found that the things I did well in in High school were the hardest, but I got through it and recieved my G.E.D. I am now 36 and in college for the first time. Please be aware there are many options out there for you to recieve help with college. Pell Grants are the best if you quailfy. I always dreamed of being a teacher growing up. Now I am living my dream I teach preschool. My dream now is to one day own my own daycare. For now I am satasified with touching the young lives I work with everday.Bev

Hi Leeanne ~ Things happen in this life which may not go along with conventional standards (like receiving a high school education, college degree, etc.) There is nothing to be ashamed of, first of all. I have been a high school teacher for 24 years. I understand that kids choose different paths for reasons at the moment. Do not look back with regret. God has been with you every step of the way. If you are choosing to get your GED because you KNOW it will benefit your family, that's great!!! Go for it! However, if it is only because people have pressured you into it, you will only be stressed when you have that extra work load, and that will be a detriment to your three kids. Be at peace, whatever you do, with yourself, and for your children. Take care, ellen

Dear Leanne, I love to think that any desire we have to be better, to improve our life, actually comes from God. He's working in our life. He'll take us each step of the way, all the way. If this is something you feel God is leading you to do, then He's giving you all the ability and intelligence to do it. I love what it says in the Bible, "He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all they ways." One book that has help me cope through challenging times is Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. You can read it here: http://www.spirituality.com. There is a chapter on prayer that I turn to quite often.

Hello this is Tabgoble and I am new to this. I have recently purchased this computer for a job working on it. My church has a God's Design page that the ladies of the church talks to through email and I have them praying for me. IT would be nice to know that I have ladies all over the world praying for me too. The job is harder than I had expected so I'm having to go real slow, so i need all your prayers.
Thanks, Tabgoble

Leanne, I to went back to school with 3 children, got my GED, and went on to graduate from college with a BSW. that was 4 years ago now. our kids are 13, 16, 18 and they all now the meaning of believing in the Lord and themselves. it was hard work, and also a team effort. when my graduation came the party we had was for them as much as for me..what i am trying to say is that its work but well worth it in the end..but do not forget the reason and family..set your priorities then trust in the Lord. I am thinking and praying for you. in the Lord,

Dear Leanne,
Instead of being afraid, get excited about all the new things you will be learning and know that God is with you all the way. Getting your GED will be your first goal. Once you accomplish this, your self-confidence will increase. If you're not sure about what you want to do exactly, a good starting point is to think back to your childhood. What did you want to be when you grew up? Then go from there and ask God to guide you. He will. You know alot more than you give yourself credit for. How else could you be raising 3 children? You've already discovered that education is valuable. Put your past failures back where they belong, in the past. Just take the lessons you've learned from them into the future so you won't make the same mistakes again. I wish you and your family all the best and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you.

Leanne, I too am praying for you. I do not know what it's like to be in your particular situation, but I definitely know what it's like to come up against fear. I read somewhere that fear is just a sign that you're growing, doing things that are new to you, and that self-confidence is just "know-how verging on boredom". It said, "You're probably self-confident about tying your shoes, but are you going to spend the rest of your life just tying your shoes?" That helped me put my fear in perspective. (I'm not saying the fear is gone- it's not- but at least I feel like I know what it is and that it's not telling me to stop.) I hope it helps you too.

Also, I am someone who hates being a beginner at anything. I feel like I SHOULD know how to do whatever it is I'm hating being a beginner at, at that moment. So, if that is part of what you're going through, I understand and I send you all the love and support I can to help you to do it anyway because I know you'll be so proud of yourself when you do.

One last thing... I went to High School and college and there are still many times when someone talks about something and I have no idea what they're saying, and I think to myself, "Where WAS I when I was supposed to have learned that?" We all feel inadequate sometimes, whether we were blessed with circumstances which enabled us to finish school, or blessed with the challenge and adventure of being a young mom. So, try to remember that you do not know any less than I do, just because I finished school and you didn't. We both know many things based on our own personal life experiences.

And, you know what, you're probably gonna take in the information NOW much better than those of us learning it in our teens... think how ahead you'll be once YOU graduate. You'll be ready to take on the world, or at least be a great contestant on "Who wants to be a millionaire?"

I wish you courage and self-love...
-Jordan
