6 year old fights for life

Matthew is my 6 year old nephew. Doctors have recently found two major problems with his heart. Without doing an operation he will die by 35 years of age. If he has open heart surgery the complications are very high and he might die.

Matthew had a Cardiology appointment on Friday, March 11, 2005. His Pediatric Dr. found a Heart Murmur and wanted him to go to a specialist. The Cardiologist was with Matthew for two hours looking and recording Matthew's heart with an ultrasound machine. Matthew was diagnosed with a "Bicuspid Aortic Valve" and also "Coarctation of the Aorta." He will be taken in next week for an MRI - pictures of his whole body. The Dr. is trying to figure out if there are any leaks and also how bad the narrowing of his valve behind his heart. The Doctor told Dana and I he has no pulse in his feet or behind his knees in his legs. All the pressure goes to his body from the waist up. His heart is working twice as hard which is causing pressure to the wall in his heart and its bowing. The MRI will give the Dr. more detail with what type of surgery needs to be done. I am scared more than anything and ask all of you for many prayers. Thank you and God bless you!
