Caregiver for Elderly Father

Waiting Until My Change Comes

I've been the primary caregiver for my elderly father (who is 90 yrs old) for 1.5 year. I'm currently feeling VERY weary and struggling with my faith in this situation. I feel very handicapped and my day to day resources are limited. I see physical and mental changes occuring and I get very upset becasue I promised my father not to send him to a nursing home, but the burden is starting to beat me down. I'm currently 34 yrs old and my life is at a hault because I'm trying not be selfish. My prayer is that "My Change Will Come".

	sacreddove2 5/6/2006 23:50	Hi Tony. I don't know where you live, but I'm in Ontario Canada so there is outside help here at no cost. I have looked after my Dad for about 2 years as he has been very sick. I loved looking after him and it was a labour of love. That being said, it's normal to feel over-tired, and trapped at times. I had help from my Mother and home-care as well to bathe Dad too. However, it is a lot of work for sure, but I will pray for the Lord to give you strength and help so that you may feel less burdended. Please remember the time you have with your Dad is precious now, and bless you both. Dear Jesus, Please give strength to Tony as he cares for his ailing Dad. Please get him some outside trusting help so that he may go out and have a time-out sometimes and come back renewed. Please bless Tony and his Dad and please ease the pain and burdens from them both by helping them through this difficult time. Please send some help so that the Dad does not have to go to a nursing home and can instead stay with his son at home.
