To serve the traveling public, 25 well-marked FORD F-150's patrol the 25 assigned areas of patrol. The areas consist of eight interstates and five corridors in twenty-nine counties throughout the state. They operate twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. This is the only Courtesy Patrol Program in the nation to operate statewide and around the clock, which is one reason why many national leaders have recognized the Courtesy Patrol as a national model.

HOW TO FORGIVE

One day a while back, a man, his heart heavy with grief, was walking
in the woods. As he thought about his life this day, he knew many
things were not right. He thought about those who had lied about him
back when he had a job.

His thoughts turned to those who had stolen his things and cheated
him. He remembered family that had passed on. His mind turned to
the illness he had that no one could cure. His very soul was filled
with anger, resentment and frustration.

Standing there this day, searching for answers he could not find,
knowing all else had failed him, he knelt at the base of an old oak
tree to seek the one he knew would always be there. And with tears
in his eyes, he prayed:

"Lord - You've done wonderful things for me in this life. You have
told me to do many things for you, and I happily obeyed. Today, you
have told me to forgive! I am sad, Lord, because I cannot. I don't
know how. It is not fair Lord. I didn't deserve these wrongs that
were done against me and I shouldn't have to forgive. As perfect as
your way is Lord, this one thing I cannot do, for I don't know how
to forgive. My anger is so deep Lord, I fear I may not hear you, but
I pray that you teach me to do this one thing I cannot do - Teach me
To Forgive."

As he knelt there in the quiet shade of that old oak tree, he felt
something fall onto his shoulder. He opened his eyes. Out of the
corner of one eye, he saw something red on his shirt.

He could not turn to see what it was because where the oak tree had
been was a large square piece of wood in the ground. He raised his
head and saw two feet held to the wood with a large spike through
them. He raised his head more, and tears came to his eyes as he saw
Jesus hanging on a cross. He saw spikes in His hands, a gash in His
side, a torn and battered body, deep thorns sunk into His head.
Finally he saw the suffering and pain on His precious face. As their
eyes met, the man's tears turned to sobbing, and Jesus began to
speak.

"Have you ever told a lie?" He asked? The man answered - "yes,
Lord."
"Have you ever been given too much change and kept it?" The man
answered - "yes. Lord." And the man sobbed more and more.
"Have you ever taken something from work that wasn't yours?" Jesus
asked? And the man answered - "yes, Lord."
"Have you ever sworn, using my Father's name in vain? "The man,
crying now, answered - "yes, Lord."
As Jesus asked many more times, "Have you ever"? The man's crying
became uncontrollable, for he could only answer - "yes, Lord."
Then Jesus turned His head from one side to the other, and the man
felt some thing fall on his other shoulder. He looked and saw that
it was the blood of Jesus. When he looked back up, his eyes met
those of Jesus, and there was a look of love the man had never seen
or known before.

Jesus said, "I didn't deserve this either, but I forgive you."

Forgiveness or Justice?

'Abdul-Bahá was asked about the correct treatment towards criminals, he said:

"When Christ said: “Whosoever shall smite thee on the right cheek, turn to him the left one also,” it was for the purpose of teaching men not to take personal revenge. He did not mean that, if a wolf should fall upon a flock of sheep and wish to destroy it, the wolf should be encouraged to do so. No, if Christ had known that a wolf had entered the fold and was about to destroy the sheep, most certainly He would have prevented it...Then what Christ meant by forgiveness and pardon is not that, when nations attack you, burn your homes, plunder your goods, assault your wives, children and relatives, and violate your honor, you should be submissive in the presence of these tyrannical foes and allow them to perform all their cruelties and oppressions. No, the words of Christ refer to the conduct of two individuals toward each other: if one person assaults another, the injured one should forgive him. But the communities must protect the rights of man...If at this moment a wild Arab were to enter this place with a drawn sword, wishing to assault, wound and kill you, most assuredly I would prevent him. If I aband-oned you to the Arab, that would not be justice but injustice. But if he injure me personally, I would forgive him."

May today there be peace within. May you trust your highest power that you are
exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite
possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have
received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.... May you be
content knowing you are a child of God.... Let this presence settle into our
bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is
there for each and every one of you.

The Litany Against Fear
May they not be possessed by fear
the mind killer that is the little death that brings total obliteration
Give them the courage to face fear
and allow it to pass over me and through them and when it has passed
Let them turn the inner eye to see
that where the fear was nothing remains As We Will It so Mote It Be

Dear Lord, Please protect the staff of the West Virginia Courtesy Patrol from harm. Strengthen their will and courage to face their everyday struggles. Pour out Your blessings on these people and their families. Bless their finances so that they can afford to pay their bills, any medical treatments and enjoy life. Bless them in their employment and educational endeavours. Bless them with good friends, surround them with kind and encouraging people. Heal their bodies and minds of whatever ails them, make them well and healthy. They help so many people Lord, we give thanks for their good service. Please help their state and the US government to continue their funding. Thank you Lord. I pray this in Jesus' name, amen.
