Alby Gavaldon
Career in Jeopardy

I moved to Dallas for a dream job, I was fired because of racial discrimination.

I am a hispanic attorney who moved to Dallas to join the Dallas County Public Defender's Office as a Felony Defense Attorney. After working there for almost two years, I was informed that I would be demoted to a lower court because I spoke Spanish. If I refused to speak Spanish, I was threatened with a pay cut. I tried to file a grievance with Dallas County, and so I was fired. Now I am without a job, any way to pay my rent or support myself. I am far from home and family, and now I don't know where to turn. I feel that my phone calls home do more to upset my mother, but I need her moral support. I was turned down for unemployment because my situation was viewed or reported as insubordination. I feel so alone and desparate, and I have been praying a lot for guidance. Should I go back home or hang on here in Dallas? I have sent out resumes endlessly and even put ads in the paper advertising legal services, but have had no response. My name is Alby.
