Eric D.
My Baby Needs Your Prayers

My infant son will be examined by a pediatric neurologist.

Eric was born on April 4, 2000. He has been a happy and healthy baby. On Monday January 8, I took Eric to see his pediatrician for his 9 month well-visit. I handed him an object to show his doctor how he thrusts his arm upwards and tenses it. She told me this kind of jesture could indicate a neurological problem and referred me to a pediatric neurologist. I have observed Eric stiffening his arms and legs, clenching his fists, trembling briefly and smacking his lips together, and have recently learned all of these jestures could be mild seizures in an infant. I am worried and deeply saddend by the possibility that Eric could have a neurological problem. I am asking for your prayers for my precious baby before he goes to the neurologist. I will post an update in the prayer section below after the examination. With Gratitude from Eric's Mommy, Michelle and Family. (mspdmalta@aol.com)

UPDATE ON ERIC ON JANUARY 12, 2001 FROM HIS MOMMY: Today Eric was seen by a Child Neurologist. The evaluation was positive and the doctor didn't seem to be concerned about the jestures Eric exhibits. He thinks they are probably normal behaviors of a baby of his age. However, to be sure he ordered a Catscan and EEG to be done at Miami Children's Hospital and for Eric to return for a follow-up visit in two months. I feel relieved that atleast from the physical evaluation, Eric does not appear to be having seizures. My mother's theory is that Eric could be alittle nervous, as she recalls me and my brother Bruce tensing up our legs as babies. Maybe he is developing a "Maltese Temper"! Thank you for your prayers. Once again, positive results have come from publishing this prayer circle (my first one for Ron Deblinger is still posted). Please continue to keep Eric in your prayers until I get an "all clear" after the neurological tests have been done (that could be as late as in March). Eric is also going to be seen by the Mailman Center for Child Development for "delays" because he doesn't crawl yet or hold his bottle. Eric is extremely alert, and apppears to be highly intelligent. Fondly, Michelle

Dear Holy Father, I agree with the others in the prayer circle to lift up baby Eric. Please Father he is one of your lil' angels sent from heaven to his mommy who loves him so dearly. Keep them both surrounded in your love, because Father, You are love. This baby will be fine according to your will, this mommy is very faithful and trusts you. I pray for the whole family, because this is a family issue. Bless them all abundantly in the areas that you know that they might be lacking, in Your precious son Jesus' Mighty name I pray this. Amen.

UPDATE FROM ERIC'S MOTHER ON FEB. 3, 2001: Eric hasn't had the neurological tests yet so there is no update on that as of yet. I took him to a pediatric opthomologist for tearing in his eyes. He has blocked tear ducts. The doctor recommends probing. I am massaging the tear ducts in hopes that this will open them naturally and Eric won't have to go through the pain of the procedure. I ask you to pray with me for success in my attempt to resolve his tear duct problem by massage. On Tuesday Eric will be seen by the Mailman Center for Child Development. He will have a three hour evaluation. They look for developmental delays. I called them one month ago because Eric wasn't crawling. He is 10 months old tomorrow and still doesn't crawl. I know that crawling is not considered a developmental stage that all babies go through, but it is still a matter of concern for me. Eric is a happy baby but recently he has been exhibiting a temper sometimes, when we try to do something he doesn't want to do (i.e., put him in his high chair). So here again is another concern of mine. Should a baby this young get angry? Eric is very different from my first biological son who was born 11 years ago. What could be normal behaviors for a baby Eric's age, may be of concern to me since it's my first time seeing them in a baby. Please remember Eric in your prayers for all of these issues. Thank You, Michelle D.

UPDATE FROM ERIC'S MOMMY ON FEBRUARY 7, 2001: I am writing this update with tears in my eyes and pain in my heart. Yesterday, I took Eric for a developmental evaluation at The Mailman Center for Child Development in Miami. It is a well-known facility. He was evaluated for 4 hours by a physician and physical therapists, etc. I made an appointment for him at the Mailman Center several weeks ago because I was concerned about the stiff jestures he exhibits and the fact that he wasn't crawling yet at 9 months. The opinion of the team at Mailman who evaluated him is that he could possibly have minor brain damage to the motor cortex of the brain. And he could possibly have mild cerebral palsy. Today I took him to Miami Children's Hospital to have an EEG and catscan to rule out brain damage, cerebral palsy, etc. I will have to wait till the end of the week or next week to find out the results and Eric's diagnosis from his Neurologist. The Mailman Center has recommended that Eric receive physical and occupational therapy twice a week. When I asked if therapy would be for one year, I was told, probably much longer. When I asked how Eric would develop if I never noticed his unusual motor jestures and hadn't brought him in for an evaluation, I was told that without therapy Eric would not walk mormally. He would be walk on his, he would lose his balance and risk falling. I have already submitted paperwork to begin the therapy as soon as possible. The cause of cerebral palsy or minor brain damage to the motor cortex of the brain is from a lack of oxygen to the brain. Most often it happens during childbirth but can happen during pregnancy. My birth was by scheduled c-section and I wasn't told of any complications, although the cord was around Eric's neck. Unfortunately I didn't find out I was pregnant until the end of my first trimester, and therefore did not receive prenatal care during my first trimester. I feel as though my world has come crumbling down. I am deeply concerned about Eric's development and his future. If there is damage to the brain, it can't be cured, but we can pray that he is responsive to the therapy which will enable him to walk and run, etc. I love Eric very deeply as does his father, Ron, and our two older children Matthew (age 10)and Victoria (age 8).We are praying for Eric's health, happiness and as normal a development that is possible. The best answer to our prayers would be to find out that the results of Eric's EEG and catscan showed no damage to his brain, that would be a miracle. Please join my family in praying for our precious baby, and all the babies in the world who are afflicted with this or other disabilities who also need our prayers and hope. Thank You, Michelle D. Michelle, Thanks for the update. We continue to ask God to take care of your precious Eric. We know he hears and can heal and we are appealing to that higher power today. Please don't lose faith or hope. Also, I am concerned about the sudden temper tantrums, not wanting to be confined. I do not want to alarm you but please please have him evaluated for Autism. My 3 yr old nephew started that with a car seat at a early age, about 16 months and has now been diagosed with Autism. He does not speak and has other problems. I urge you to have this looked at. It could be the most important thing you do. Also please pray for a friends baby that is in an Orlando hospital, born 3 months premature with several physical problems. His name is David and his parents were on vacation in Florida. He was due in May but she went into premature labor and he was delivered Csection on Wed. They are from Kentucky. We continue to keep your husband on our prayer journal as well as Eric and your whole family. Keep your faith!!!!! its important. Remember, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" . Grace and Peace to your family, Love, Penny

UPDATE: Eric turned one on April 4th. I am happy to update this prayer circle with the news that Eric's Catscan and EEG were normal. Two pediatric neurologist examined him and found nothing wrong. When he was evaluated by an OT and PT at Miami Children's Hospital he was found to be at age level. I thank you for your prayers and thank God for a healthy baby. Eric began crawling at 10 months, cruising at 11 months and is taking steps with assistance at 12 months. I am confident he will be walking soon. Michelle

To Erics mom. I too had an infant son with epilepsy and was treated for the condition with medications only to fail. By lots of prayers and a tremendous amount of faITH IN OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST WE CAME OFF THE MEDS ONLY TO FIND THAT OUR PRAYERS WERE ANSWERED WITHOUT THE MEDS THE SEIZURES STOPPED BECAUSE WE HUNG TRUE TO THE SCRIPTURE BY HIS STRIPES WE ARE HEALED AND WE ARE AND HE WAS. BY HIS STRIPES MY SON WAS HEALED IN ALOT OF OTHER WAYS ALSON HE HAD WENT THROUGH SURGERY AND 10 DIFFERENT DOCTORS BEFORE OUR DIAGNOSIS WAS FOUND. SO YOU HAVE ALL MY PRAYERS AND I WILL LIFT ERIC UP IN OUR PRAYERS AT CHURCH ALSO. JUST HAVE FAITH IN HIM AND HE WILL CARRY YOU THROUGH.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL
