Kenneth Untener
Bishop

Please pray for Bishop Untener as he battles cancer and the need for a bone marrow transplant.

Bishop Kenneth E. Untener is a native Detroiter. After attending a parish school for 12 years, he attended college and theologate in the Detroit area. He was ordained to the priesthood by Cardinal John F. Dearden in 1963.

After parish work and then service in the Chancery, he was sent to the Gregorian University in Rome where he obtained his doctorate in theology. He returned to Detroit and served in the Clergy Office.

In 1977 he was appointed Rector of St. John's Provincial Seminary, Plymouth, Mich.

In November of 1980, he became Bishop of the Diocese of Saginaw.

His articles have appeared in various periodicals such as U. S. Catholic and Compass and he has written a book, Sunday Liturgy Can Be Better. He regularly gives retreats to priests and theological/pastoral talks around the country.
