Recovering Athiest needs support

I was raised in a home where all religious and spiritual matters were considered weakness and insanity, I find it hard to believe in things and I'm not even sure I understand the concept of 'faith'. Maybe this will help.

I grew up in a home which was as fanatically athiest as some are in their religions...since breaking away from this and exploring spiritual things I have had many positive experiences and good feelings as a result, but at times I fear that perhaps as my father would say I am simply too weak to accept the reality of a purely physical and meaningless universe, and then I become depressed. I'm not sure what I am hoping will come of this (I hope not excessive conversion attempts---one thing I do believe is that people must find their *own* path), but perhaps some support and guidance. How do you maintain a belief in things you can't prove or measure?

Dear God, please help this individual, your child, right now in this deeply important matter. This individual has had an upbringing that is indeed foreign to most of us, who come from homes where God was venerated above all. Dear God, by having the wisdom and the courage even to explore matters concerning you, even to post this message on this website, this person is taking a leap of faith. This leap of faith is greater than most of us will ever understand. God, help this individual to come to know you on a personal basis. Let this person understand your plan for their life. Send this person your peace, love, guidance, and wisdom. Let this person see you at work: in nature, in people's hearts and minds, in his or her own soul. Give this person the strength to stand up for their belief in you and give this person the strength to stand up to all those who would put down his or her belief in God. God, be with all the children raised by atheists and allow them to know of you. Help their families to see the error of their ways and give them strength. Amen.
