Ryan R
A young man in his mid-twenties

Ryan is a young man suffering with bi-polar disorder.

Ryan approached me at work with a deep sadness he was feeling about his disorder recurring. He felt within himself that he had the disease under control. He has been able to withstand an enormous amount of pressure for the last two years. And now Ryan feels that he has to depend on his prescription drugs and psychiatric care to maintain and perservere. His whole world seems to be falling apart where he feels there is no hope left. I'd like to restore his self-esteem, self love and faith that people do care what he feels and thinks. I do BELIEVE in the power of prayer, and so please join me in prayer and help me convince Ryan that he is worthy of God's love and that God loves all of us unconditionally.

Ryan,
There are many people who live very productive lives with the bi-polar disorder. Some people don't find out until their much older, and suffer terribly as you well know. We need more people out there to share their life experiences with others in order to help stop the insaniety their feeling. People such as yourself, if your willing to reach out your hand to someone else. God put you here for a reason, please don't let this wonderful gift go un-used. Please allow God to use you as he did his son.
God Bless,
CK

Ryan, some of the most beautiful people in the world are Bi-polar, or Paranoid Schizophrenic. You are in my prayers. I pray that God will send you strength and understanding that you are not alone. I pray that he will help the doctors find new medications, to help those who suffer. I pray for hope, for you and your family. Don't ever give up, there is new knowledge of this illness everyday... and realize that many, many people with bi-polar live wonderful, fulfilling lives. Blessings to you.... liah

Ryan, I know how you're feeling. It took a long time for me to realize that everyone is chosen and special and that the world is better because you're in it, even if you can't understand how. Be strong and have faith in love and other people. I love you and want you to be a part of this world. I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers -you really can make it through anything because you are an amazing person with strength inside of you that you haven't tapped into. Bless you.

Ryan, I too am bipolar and have been diagnosed for about six years. I tend to live on the manic side, and the first two years I was diagnosed were hard because even though the medicine helped me tremendously, I had to unlearn negative behavioral responses to people and situations and learn appropriate behaviors. I decided to have a counselor help me with this and when I felt the urge to behave inappropriately, I remembered that I was going to "report in" to my counselor that week and I wanted to be able to say, "So and So ticked me off today and I said or did such-n-such (appropriate thing)". This "reporting in" helped me a lot. You need a psychiatrist for 15 minute med checks, but you can use a (much cheaper) counselor rather than a psychiatrist for therapy--in fact I would recommend a counselor over a doctor any day for therapy. I use an RN who is a certified specialist in the field of psychiatry and is a wonderful counselor.

Whatever you do Ryan--do NOT stop taking any of the prescribed medicines your doctor gives you!! If you feel up or down, tell your doctor immediately and have them add or change your cocktail of drugs with either anti-depressants or anti-anxiety drugs. Make sure you are on a mood stabilizer like Lithium, Depakote, Neurontin, or Tegretol. You cannot survive and live a normal productive life without your medication. If you are a rapid cycler, it will be difficult for medication to solve your problems, but don't ever go off of them--ever--for the rest of your life.

You are not alone with this disorder. You should get with a support group--look up DBSA (Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance) on the Internet and find a group near you. It helps to hear what others with the illness are doing and also helps you realize you're not alone.

You could also do things that help calm you down and center you, like Kundalini yoga (not Hatha yoga). Kundalini yoga has a spiritual component to it.

To understand your illness better, you could read A Brilliant Madness by Patty Duke, who has bipolar disorder, or books by Kay Jamison Redfield, who helped write the medical textbook on it and has several books out about her own fight with bipolar disorder, and there's another one called Moodswings by Dr. Fieve I think.

Also read Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain. It helps you be more positive using basic mind over matter techniques.

I hope that the info in this email will be an answer to some of your prayers. I will pray that you find and join a support group and that you continue with your medication.

Take care, and God Bless you! You can do it--just hang in there!! It gets better every year--like wine!

Ryan, I know how you feel. My husband Ryan has the same disorder, he tried medication without help they caused more problems than solved. He was never a religious man, but began going to church with myself and our daughters and has since been weaned off his high dose of Zoloft and is now coping with life. He has learned that no matter what problems we have in life, We can deal with them if we just believe. Talking with other church members and friends made his realize that years of suffering and letting his disease take over has caused more heartache tan needed. If you ever need someone to taalk to please e-mail me we also live in the downriver area of Michigan. God Bless and Good luck

Hello Ryan, I hope and pray to the Lord that he will wrap you in his loving embrace and give you guidance and strength to endure anything that comes your way. I had a boyfriend who has Bipolar disorder and he battles this every day. I still pray for him to be strong and to continue to take his medication. Before he met me,His Doctor had him on 4 different meds. And I got the Doctor to try him on Depakote which has been a positive medication for people with Bipolar disorder,,now he only takes 2 different types of meds. Ryan, it is very important to take your meds because if you dont then it can really mess you up. So please rely on the Lord as he will not give up on you. He is always with you. When things seem at their darkest you just look up to heaven and say a short prayer,,,it doesn't have to be long but simple and short. Something like "Dear Lord, Grant me the strength to go forward in you loving grace. Amen" God loves you Ryan and so do I. (/O\)May angels watch over you. (MAWOU) Your new Friend, Jackie
