For My Friends and Myself That Self-Injury

This is a Prayer Circle for those of my friends and myself that struggle with the addiction of self-injury. This isn't for the judgmental; we just need lots of prayers. I greatly appreciate your prayers.

Self-injury is one of the most untalked about, socially unacceptable forms of addiction. People that self-injure keep their addiction a secret because they are most often very ashamed of what they do and feel very alone. Self-injury starts out as a way to cope with intense emotional feelings that the person feels they can only express or release by harming themselves. Cutting or burning themselves actually will help relieve the pain the person is feeling. Unfortunately this eventually stops working and the person is faced with a secret addiction that can cost them their lives. Although one would think that a person who self-injures is suicidal the act of self-injury is the opposite and is rarely associated with suicide in the person. Six of my close friends and I self-injure. I don't want to die and they don't want to do. We all have our reasons and we are all trying our very hardest. I'm seeing a therapist, my family knows, and I'm on medication but it is still very hard so please pray.

	CarolDG 11/25/2001 11:10	Dear Kitten and Friends, I admire your courage for making public your addiction and I am very glad that you (and hopefully your friends) are getting counsel from a trusting and knowledgable therapist. You may find that Psalm 86 will be comforting and during a time when you feel like self-injuring, reading it aloud may distract you and remind you of God's amazing love and of his willingness to help us just when we need it most. It may remind you that others, like myself, are remembering you in our prayers. May our loving God who knows your heart and who wants to heal your innermost being give you each strength and courage when you are faced with giving in to your addiction and give you the emotional release of peace and joy that you need when you don't give in. May he help you to find in yourselves the love and beauty that he ever sees in you. Amen.

	ljeshull 11/25/2001 12:39	Dear Kitten and friends, My niece self injured due to a trauma in her early life and I, myself have suffered with a life long struggle wih chronic clinical depression. I pray that you all may find the counseling help that you need and the loving support of this community and your Father in heaven. He loves each of you for your uniqueness. He loves you and sees your beauty and strength. I know that as with my emotional and chemical problem that you may not yet have come to a stage in your journey that you are able to love yourself, but please know that there are many others that love you and are praying for you to come to that knowledge. Take it one step at a time and don't give up. There will be temporary set backs and days that you feel like you just went back to square one, but God is walking with you and is there supporting you. God loves you and forgives you, so be as generous in forgiving yourself. It took me five years of loving support, therapy and finding a medication that gave me respite from the depression so that I could begin to work my way out. But ultimately it has brought me closer to God, my husband and myself. I pray that you will find the same love and peace that I have. You are all in my prayer list. Amen

	ruthel 11/25/2001 20:26	I hope that you and others like you have the strength to ask God for your help. I have asked God to help you and you will remain in my prayers every night. I to have tried self injuring and had to seek assistance to stop. But if I can stop than anyone can. The fact that you are asking for help is a great sign. There is hope and help if you only ask. The hardest part is asking for help, so congradulations that you have conqured the first step. It just becomes easier if you ask for support, and I give mine to you. God bless you kitten Amen

She and her friends needs help in dealing with this terrible result. In your name JESUS I ask that you let the healing begin and stop this self inflicting of injury! Heal her Dear Lord and guide her so that she may overcome this situation and help her friends also. Give them strength, wisdom and courage! But most of all wrap your loving arms around her for protection! Thank you our Father..AMEN

	tezchaos 11/25/2001 20:40	Hello Kitten and friends. I do feel for all of you. I am a counselor it sounds like you may have some borderline trates. Remember God always He helps those who are just wiling to ask. He is also a forgiving God any thing you have done in the past he will forgive just repent.In thefeild I am in I have seen many beet this problem it is not easy but believe me it helps to know and have God in your life. I will keep you andyour friends in my prayers. Believe me you are on te right track just writing and requesting prayers and that is something to feel great about. Good luck and God Bless

	rainshine4 11/25/2001 22:12	Dear Kitten and Friends, I can understand the idea of selfinjury but I want you to know that you are a people who can make a difference in the world and hurting yourselves insn't going to help. Bad things can happen in life sometimes but you just have to learn to accept them or do something about them to make sure that events that have happened don't happen again, like helping others to learn how to prevent unwanted actions. Try putting your stress and anger into trying to make the world a beter place. Sometimes it rains, but the sun will come out again, and you can help bring the sun out. Never forget that.
