Holy God, Pain-Bearer, Life-Giver, comfort your servant Frank, and bless the means made use of for his cure. Fill his heart with confidence that, though at times he may be afraid, he yet may put his trust in you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Bishop Griswold's deep spirituality and prayerful leadership is having an effect on the Episcopal Church. His transformation of the General Convention included the unprecedented move of suspending business for half a day, calling delegates to join together in prayer in a silent retreat. The decision of the presiding bishop to preach each morning was a powerful, unifying force for the convention. Through this prayerful focus, delegates found a more effective and less confrontational way to deal with issues. Now more than ever we need his guidance to help us, as a Church, discover more fully the mystery of our life in Christ.

The Presiding Bishop announced this week that he has cancer. It is in early stages and probably treatable, but our prayers can only help.
