Rick D
Myself -- to stop masturbating.

For those wishing to stop this practice.

I realize that many do not consider masturbation to be a sin. I still value straight-edge sensibilties. I do not drink, smoke, nor believe in sex outside the context of love.

I am not married, but have a strong sex drive. I have chosen not to have sex with a lady until I meet the person I want to live with forever, and marry.

For me, masturbation is wrong. I do not wish to speak for all, but I am uncomfortable with it. Since I was a pre-teen I have given myself a "release" every few days.

I would appreciate prayers to avoid this practice.

I would also appreciate prayers so that I might find a wife.

Thanks all...

I wouldn't worry to much about a release every few days. Its better than what some ungodly people do. If your going to sin , a minor sin against yourself is not as bad as forcing it on others.
I also have been trying to stop masterbating, and I haven't for a long time now. Ask god for the grace to stop doing it, He won't grant grace until you ask in sincere prayer. It works for me, I thank God every day fot the power that goes through me from Him.

Rick -

Let me say up front that I'm one of those people who don't believe masturbation is a "sin".

I'd be more concerned if told us you'd become so fixated with the activity that it's starting to take up too much of your day.

By all means keep yourself from women other than your wife (to be), if you feel this is the right thing to do - but don't deny yourself a measure of comfort in the meantime.

From a woman's perspective, if you aren't out on street corners making pick ups, and masturbating is the worst of your "sins", then I'd say you aren't a bad fellow.

I don't think nature intended us to be totally bereft of an outlet for our sexual urges. Better to take them out on yourself than an unwilling partner, don't you think?

Rick, you poor man, the best I can do is pray that you lighten up on yourself!

Happily, I'm very willing to pray that a nice, jolly and humourous lady comes along to share your life very soon.

Smile, my friend, life is too short for this sort of worry!

Rick-

Your heart for God's will in your life is awesome. I too felt convicted about mastrubation. I disagree with the person who said you shouldn't worry at all about it. You know that it is not God's will for you to be stuck in this addiction. God doesn't desire addiction in our lives. At the same time, the fact that you care so much shows that you are a man after God's own heart. That cannot really be taught. The fact that you are sinning can't be fixed by stopping mastrubation. This just shows us how painfully we need a savior.

At the same time, I really think that stopping mastrubation would lead to a lot of blessings in your life.

Once I decided that I wanted to stop it, I tried and tried, but I just couldn't stop it. I found myself going down a road I didn't want to. I just kept failing anf failing. Finally, I went out and told my mentor who had stopped the practice years ago. He is like a brother to me. Through his mentoring and accountability and the help of my friends who were trying to do the same thing, I found freedom. God offeres us so much freedom. Some people think that means we can do whatever we want. They say that we can do thing our way. Our way, however, falls painfully short. The freedom I experience having left mastrubation is unlike anything I could have done myself.

My suggestion is to continue to pray fervantly, but to also go to a mentor or find an accountability partner. My heart goes out to you. Take heart, you have already been redeemed. Nothing you could do could ever make God love you less.

Dear Lord,
You are so great, God! Thank you for your constant presence with us. Please make that presence especially tangible to Rick as he goes through this time. Remind him of your constant love, and bring him up to new heights. Fill him with the strength to leave the place he is at with his struggle. Continue to sustain his heart for you, and continue to bless him with a passion for you. Bless Bill with a wife, Lord. Help him find the one who will make him feel the love you have for him. Hold Bill tight, Lord.
Amen
