Myth #7: The Communists Won
During the Cold War, there were worries that Communism would spread worldwide. Today, the majority of formerly Communist countries have abandoned its doctrines. In Poland, it is illegal to promote or teach Communism. China and Vietnam have largely abandoned Marxism’s repudiation of capitalism and free market trade, although on the political level, they still allow only the Communist Party. Freedom of expression and religion are restricted – primarily focused on keeping the ruling class in power. However, their embrace of capitalism is ironic – for in the end, the principles that the United States was defending in Vietnam have triumphed.
