Joanne Keith
The eternal teenager

She was born on christmas eve. One week after my tenth birthday. She injoyed painting and was studing to be a veterinarian. Our baby sister, the youngest of five.

She was born with the umbilical cord wraped around her neck. Her face was as red as a bright red stocking.
Later in school, it was discoverd that she was epileptic. The docters said that she did not get enough oxygen when she was born.
On the twenty third of september as America was recovering from 9/11, my baby sister had a seizure in the bathtub and drowned.
It was only afterward that I found out that I was her hero. She wanted to be just like me.
I love snow. That christmas eve on the day she would have turn twenty It snowed in middle Georgia. Not sleet or hail but pure, fluffy, worth making snow-cream with snow.
Our older brother said it was Joanne. She was safe and happy. She finaly got to go somewhere and do something first. With two older brothers and two older sisters that's a hard thing to do. She was sharing her joy and happiness.
Now when I think about her and cry, I do not cry for her. I know she's happy and waiting for us. I cry for me. Because I still miss her.
