In Memory of All Who Died September 11th
Winter Will Be Long

Winter will be long this year,
long for those who remember.

No gifts or cards with reindeer and mistletoe, no cookies iced and sprinkled, no carols lifted to the sky.

These are nothing my mind tells me;
symbols only.

It isn't the card or the flared
candle, the song with mumbled second verse, not even the angel drunk and tipped on that high crooked clump of needles.

But the hand that lifted it from its tissued-nest, that brushed the child's bangs to one side, that
signed the card, that turned the
key inside the lock.

Winter will be long this year,
long for those who remember.

Thank you for your beautiful poem. It reminds us to keep our priorities straight, and see the meaning behind things. It is not the trivial things that matter, it the human behind those things that warms our hearts.

Thank you again-

God of faithfulness, we come to you in anguish;
Our hearts are torn for the murders in our land.
We have questions that need to be answered
For lost lives we do not understand.

God, we need your grace to settle our hearts;
And hope to settle our need for justice.
Help us be peacemakers and not to hate;
To realize your presence dwells within us.

Give us courage to live in light, hope and love;
A beacon of light to shine whatever the cost;
To help those who need to find their way,
And to experience peace in their time of loss.

Fill us with compassion to show we grieve;
Give us wisdom to do what you divinely ordain.
Hold us back from retribution done in haste;
Yet, allow justice so lives are not lost in vain.

Be with our president as he leads this nation.
Guide him to do what is right in your eyes.
Our freedom of life was taken from us.
Bring the enemy out from under his disguise.

An act of war is the call ringing out,
Innocent lives taken, and now hysteria.
But, Lord, is this really a wake-up call
For the Spirit of God to fill America?

I pray as the dust settles on these tragic events,
God, become our refuge and our stave.
You are our shelter in this time of need.
Keep our land the home of the free and the brave.

i think that this was a very needed memorial. Most have forgotten about those who died trying to save our loved ones, and those who were on those planes.My pain and sympathy goes out to all who lost someone on this tragic day of september.We all need to continue to stand strong together and show them they didi not hurt no one but themselves when they did this to our strong natoin. TOGETHER WE STAND TOGETHER WE WILL FALL.Only the weak ones shall fall, and we as a nation are not weak. RIP TO ALL WHOM WE HAVE LOST.

May we be forgiven for failing to remember all the precious lives lost that day. I remember that I was in school when I heard the news. I saw the 2nd tower fall on TV and I felt all those lives cry out and then vanish. Never in my life had I felt such terror, anger, and grief. Let us put religious difference aside, for behold, we all believe in something. When the rain falls, remember that the Goddess weeps with us and she will replenish our souls.

When the heart grieves over what it has lost, the soul rejoices over what it has left. We all have each other,lets love and take care of each other, as we never have before, so those we have lost will not have died in vain.
