Victims of Columbine
Lend Your Voices on the First Anniversary

April 20 marks the first anniversary of the worst school shooting in U.S. history.

On that date in 1999, 15 people--12 students, 1 teacher, and 2 gunmen, also students--died at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, during a 30-minute rampage that devastated the school's community and stunned the nation.

If you have prayers or thoughts to offer in response to Columbine--or to the many other instances of school violence--please sign in and record them below. Beliefnet welcomes your written contributions.

May we all be mindful of our actions and strive each day to do good in this world. We are the future of the world and it is our decision whether that future will be filled with love or with more horrible images like those which haunt us from April 20ths of the past.

My heart goes out to those left behind in this terrible tragedy and to all others whose lives have been shattered by violence. May your faith and family make you strong.

Goddess Blessings.

Out of respect for the victims, we as a community must think of ways in which we can assist others in pain. They're crime was not just one against themselves, but one against their community as well. As a community we failed the Columbine boys.

DEAR GOD PLEASE GIVE THEIR FAMILIES PEACE, SURROUND THEM IN YOUR LIGHT OF LOVE. GOD PROTECT OUR CHILDREN AS LIFE FOR THEM TODAY SEEMS SO MUCH HARDER THAN IT USED TO BE. KEEP EVIL INFLUENCES AT BAY, LET OUR CHILDREN BE CHILDREN AGAIN. I ASK THIS IN THE NAME OF YOUR SON JESUS CHRIST WHO DIED TO SAVE US. AMEN

God, our Father,

May your children rest in peace. And may their deaths not be in vain. Let us learn from this violence, let us learn that God is love and that the best way to live with eachother is to love eachother. May such a tragedy never happen again. We will bear the scars for eternity. Forgive us, Lord, and save us from something like this ever happening again.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

Dear Heavenly Father,
I ask you today as a former student of Columbine, to watch over the families, and the students who are still greiving over the loss of that day. We ask that you give them peace, strength, wisdom, love, and faith as each day goes by that they will soon be healed from sorrow and can look at the joy knowing that their loved ones are now angels in the sky. It is my prayer, that in the midst of violence and hatred that we look to our Lord and Savior to keep us from harm. We will never forget what happened, some may be able to forgive, and some may not, but it is the word of God that will help heal their hearts and give them peace. May The Lord Bless you and Keep you, May he make His face shine upon you, and give you peace.

Amen

There is a very important word from one of Gods anointed men by the name of Paul which addresses this issue of teenagers who are inventors of evil, haters of God and disobedient to parents! It's found in the 1st chapter of the book of Romans, verses 18-32 under the sub-title of "Unbelief and its Consequences" Education should encompass all aspects of the human experience; physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual. A number of years ago the spiritual side of things was eliminated from the public school system and now we see the fruit thereof, manifesting itself in these violent outbreaks which are a direct result of unbelief. When I speak of spiritual things I'm not talking religion! I speak to the truths and principles which our Nation was and still is founded upon and spelled out in our beloved Constitution and Bill of Rights. Men and women have given their lives to keep this Nation free from the tyranny which would love to take over and toss out all that we hold dear. The gist of these words come down to an old phrase which goes like this, " TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES." When we exchange the truth of God for a lie or suppress the truth in unrighteousness then a whole bunch of things are let loose in the form of a " pandoras box " of what this word refers to as consequences!

My prayer is that all teenagers read these words penned by its author 2000 years ago and ponder these words which shed light on those things which come in the form of consequences when one does not believe in a loving God and Creator who made these physical bodies for one purpose, that being a temple or a dwelling place for the Spirit of God. We all have a destiny, but without God's revelation knowledge, we could be heading in the wrong direction, making wrong choices which leads to death. Right choices and obedience to Gods word leads to eternal life. It's not too late to change the trend! What we've witnessed in these school shootings for the past few years is only the tip of the iceberg and if our Teens awareness of the truths of these words can stop this trend, then May God bless His word to do just that! Amen.

Abba, Heavenly Father, we ask that You pour out Your blessings on this community and enrich the lives and educate us about the world that goes on around us, and may parents learn that they must be attentive to their children. Open our eyes, Jesus, so that we may see what ignorrance truly costs us.
In the Name of the Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit,
Amen

Well, I remember April the 20th of 1999 like it was yesterday. I was skipping grade 10 math class when I heard the news that there was a shooting in a place called Columbine. I remember standing outside of the school smoking a joint, happily I no longer smoke pot, when my friend walked up to me and said, “Did you hear about the shooting?” I said “Where, here?” He said, “No, no in some place called Columbine.” That was the first I ever heard of this place called Columbine. I can tell you that these two kids were not that far away from what my friends and I were like. We were anti-religious, pot smokers; we also made pipe bombs in our basements without our parents noticing. We egged houses, picked on the bible readers and were all around bored out of our tree constantly but unlike them we smarted up, some by getting arrest, myself by getting clean off weed. I prayer for the families and for the souls of these young people of the book, may they be in paradise with Allah, happy and safe.

May the guidance and blessing from the almighty Allah, creator of the universe help humanity from not letting this event repeat in any school from now on…

May all the Columbine families find some comfort and peace during this difficult time. I'm also praying for the families of Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold ... I have lost a child (illness), but I can only imagine the pain they must be living with, having to remember every day that not only have they lost a child, but that their child(ren) were responsible for taking 12 other lives. God grant your mercy on their souls and the souls of all those departed before us.
