Are you the type of person that complains relentlessly about being single? Does it just stress you out thinking that you will never find someone to spend the rest of your life with? Some people simply haven’t met the right person yet. However there are others that need to be more realistic and learn that they’re the reason they are still single. They are holding themselves back in one way or another, and it’s keeping them from finding the real love of their life. It’s time to be real: it might be you.

There are a lot of bad habits that singles fall into, and if you’re guilty of one or two of them, recognizing it and nipping it in the bud may be the key to opening up doors to longer lasting, quality relationships. Your expectations are too high.

Are you setting unrealistic expectations of what a partner should look like in the relationship? You might really be limiting your dating success by only sticking to one type or standard. Most people set ideals for the perfect significant other that is simply unattainable. People can often surprise you and show they have great things to offer, but if you never give them a chance you are doing yourself a disservice. Stop taking large chunks of people out of the population simply because they don’t have one thing you want. Just because the cute girl or guy you like doesn’t have a college degree, isn’t taller than you, or isn’t blonde doesn’t mean they can’t be your perfect soulmate.

You aren’t a catch yourself.

It’s time to be honest with yourself. While you should absolutely have some self-confidence about who you are, you also need to get real. If you want a partner that makes six-figures, has a boat and is a hunk you have to really ask yourself – what are you bringing to the relationship? Relationships are not a one-way street. You don’t have to be perfect but be aware of your flaws and strive to better them. Are you a gossiper sometimes? Work towards bettering yourself to reduce how much you do. Think about it this way: do you want to date someone who lies, cheats, is lazy, unkempt and expects everything to be handed to them? Absolutely not. So why do you expect that someone magical will drop into your life if you are that way?

You aren’t acknowledging your self-worth.

Self-destruction can be so sneaky sometimes that you don’t even realize you’re doing it. You might be ruining your chances with a good partner on purpose, because deep down you have some self-confidence issues and believe you don’t deserve them. You might feel that you aren’t pretty enough, smart enough, or good enough for someone else, so you choose to settle with people you know you aren’t compatible with. By chasing unavailable options, you are only making your self-worth sink even lower. Everyone, and yes we mean everyone, deserves to find the love of their life. You are a worthy person who deserves to find someone fantastic!
