How Kids Grieve
Children feel the same acute sense of loss that adults do. Emotions of pain, confusion, and fear are common. These feelings get expressed in a wide variety of ways ranging quiet tears to acting out. Some kids may ask endless questions. Others may never speak of what happened. There will be no “right” way to do this. The first thing to do is reaffirm their feelings – don’t correct their grief. Let them know that you feel the same way. Then offer new ways to start thinking about things through the lens of their faith.
