Bad Behavior: Punching Friends
Why It’s Actually Not So Bad:
Roughhousing – even play boxing – is social and healthy. But it should only be a game between friends. Roughhousing has no place if someone’s angry. Rough-and-tumble play often looks like misbehavior or goofing off, but it actually builds brain power, helps kids develop impulse control, emotional awareness, and confidence through risk-taking.
Keep it Appropriate: Move rough games outside or to another location. Check in “Are you both having fun?’ If things get too rough, help kids set personal limits. “Did you like that when he pulled your shirt? Tell him!”
