When Don Lange returned from military service in Afghanistan he faced an uncertain future. His brain rattled by a roadside bomb, he felt, in his own words, as though he died that day on the battle field. To an extent he did, as his personality was forever changed by the blast. But what he did with this “death” was pure inspiration, because instead of just grieving his loss he realized that from this day forward he could create new personality, a new Don Lange. Seven years out, that’s what he has done, and, in his telling, he prefers the newer, wiser, more compassionate and thoughtful model.
