I shall never forget that hot afternoon in late August 2000. My granddaughter had a doctor’s appointment and needed me to take care of her two beautiful children. I was on my way to her home, but my car was stuck behind a bus that was driving very slowly. The bus came to an intersection where it made a complete stop, and I did the same. Glancing in my rearview mirror, I saw a black pickup truck behind me with a string of traffic behind it. When the bus finally turned right, I glanced left and right several times. Seeing nothing, I pulled out onto the road slowly, but immediately my steering wheel was turned sharply to the left, jerking my hands off of it and into my lap.

I had no idea what was happening and I tried to lift my hand, but I couldn't.  Instead, my hand seemed to be impossibly heavy. At the same time, I seemed to fall into a semi-conscious sleep, but I could also "see" the faint outlines of several people inside my car. One person took my hand and said, "Just put your hand back in your lap until this is all over.” I tried to open my eyes, but there seemed to be something holding them shut. Again, I tried to lift my hand, but it was placed back into my lap.  I decided to relax for what seemed like 5 minutes, but the experience could only have been for a few seconds. Suddenly, I was able to open my eyes and in my rearview mirror, I saw the black truck still waiting at the intersection. But, as I was looking at the black truck, a silver-blue streak passed behind my car. Inside were two young men driving very fast, and the driver had his hand out the window making an obscene gesture.

When I saw the silver-blue streak, I realized I had been saved from a bad accident. Suddenly, I felt the fading presence of someone beside me, and I said out loud, "What in the world is going on here?" Of course, there was no audible answer. I began to turn slowly back onto the correct lane and go on my way with the most indescribable feeling of peace.

As I continued driving, I approached a vacant lot where the silver-blue car was parked. I saw the two young men sitting in the car, and they seemed to be extremely moved by something. I wondered if I was going to be a victim of their road rage when another black truck pulled up right behind me, leaving no room for the silver-blue car to follow close behind me. I kept driving, keeping a close eye on the rearview mirror for the two young men, but they just went on their way.

I feel strongly that my guardian angels were with me that day, and I have often wondered if the young men had saw them, which is why they seemed to be moved. I'll never know, but I do know that the experience has changed my life so that I have a stronger belief in a wonderful and great God.

Even now, I keep those two young men in my prayers, but of course, I am certainly more careful at that intersection.
