No matter how good you are, no matter how hard you try, everybody is bound to have a rotten day sometimes. Not too long ago, we asked Beliefnet users to tell us their favorite inspirational pick-me-up after a bad day. Try one of these the next time you're down . or offer your own thoughts here!

My favorite "pick-me-up" is to gather as many hugs from special people as I can. If I happen to be alone and it's an especially rough day, not only do I turn to God in prayer....but I take the time to visualize and FEEL Him giving me a big hug too!!!
--Tammit20

Being in the present alleviates the past, therefore, I meditate. A clear mind never felt so GOOD!
--TaoZen14

A nice long drive in the country to clear all the day's bad things away. Looking at this God's great earth reminds me that we are only here because of him
-- Tkendall

A friend once said, "Take a warm bath. Eat Chinese take-out. Go to sleep. If things still seem bad in the morning, THEN you know you've got a problem." But for years I've followed his advice and you know, things NEVER seem as bad the next morning!

A cup of tea, a good book, and my cat. Also I love going to prayer house near my home to light candles and talk to my grandmother.
--codove

I find that doing something creative helps me to change my focus. I like to play my guitar or cook. I also find that listening to music that I love is very soothing, and can take me to a new place. I have music that takes me to a particular place in time, with good memories, and some that I find especially inspiring. I once read that even the act of appreciating is creative.

I try to practice what the Dalai Lama says, "If you can change things, then do so. If you cannot change things, why be unhappy?"
-- Kali916

I have found the best way to deal with an ongoing problem is to take a breather from thinking about it. Then when you least expect it the answer will come to you.
-- ravensclaw

Going shopping is a good remedy for me.
--Chante

I dig in the dirt; that is, work in my garden! I LOVE tending to God's plants and watching them grow. It allows me to focus on God-at-work and the beauty of God's creation as I participate with God in sustaining this glorious creation. I also find gardening and yardwork relaxing because these activities allow me to focus on God with ALL of my self: mind, body, & soul. Who cares about the troubles of the day when admiring the vibrant, velvet petals of a pansy??!
-- dukebred

I think, Tomorrow will be better. I hold my head up, put a little lipstick on, & SMILE!!
-- cam1997

The ear/shoulder of a friend does wonders as well. Saying aloud what happened and how it made to you feel can really help you to let it go, or at least realize that it's not all THAT bad.... works for me!
--adiajames

One night I just cried till I could no longer cry, and the next day people were asking me why I am so happy. I guess I used up all of the anger and frustration I had that night..

As a single Mom of 2 great kids, ages 7&9, I don't have much time to accept a bad day and nurture myself. With that in mind, after a bad day, I make a very simple dinner, do only what I absolutely have to, and sit down. Looking for the bright side always helps too.
-- JulietheShmul727

I try to remain in the moment and tell myself that I have this 'eternal' moment to become stronger and more positive.....
-- Dianne53

I take some deep breaths and get more oxygen to my brain. The breaths seem to "wake me up" to the present, wonderful moment that Thich Nhat Hanh speaks of... "breathe in calm, breathe out smile."
--pegryan

Coloring ... get the crayons, markers, pencils and color. Just color, not create a great work of art. It's a great way to be creative, relax, let my mind do whatever running it wants to do.
-- grace95

When I come home from "one of those days" and my three-year old nephew yells out "AUNTIE!" and runs and grabs me and hugs me, I forget everything that happened....everything.
--geigh1

I usually try to start my mornings with prayer and it usually helps me through the day. Just ask the Lord to see you through the day.
-- Tine

Look forward to tomorrow, a new creation and a new start.
-- tmore35

I need to concentrate not so much on what needs to be changed in the world, as on what needs to be changed in me and in my attitudes.
-- Happy-Joyous

When all else fails...chocolate, chocolate, chocolate!
-- dragonfeather

I always go for a long walk in the neighborhood. I look into the sky and then talk to the One with the biggest shoulders! This does 2 things for me. First it gets my problems to the One who really understands me, and second, I am always refreshed when I get home with a whole new perspective and energy!
--rusty1

To listen to one of my favorite inspirational songs, usually one with the title that fits the situation, over and over again until that message settles in my spirit and I have given the problem away.
-- BRACE

I go home and pet and love my two wonderful dogs. One is 15 and the other is a 1 1/2. They bring me joy and love me unconditionally.
-- billie43

I ask myself a few questions... Have I been eating healthy foods, drinking plenty of water, getting enough sleep and exercise? If my answer is no, then I say to myself, "take care of these things first." (Of course if I have pms and/or it's a full moon, forget all the above. I am human. I eat.)
-- qbodine

Get on my Harley & slowly cruise the countryside back roads. To see & smell all the God-created things of nature.
-- mikec

The one thing that has always lifted my spirits after a bad day is to view the world from the back of a horse. My family recognizes that also and usually tell me to "go ride a horse" when I am particularly grumpy.
--mysticalrose

I play my favorite gospel music louder than my thoughts!
-- alc

God's blessed each one of us in some way, when it's been a rough day, think about what He's blessed you with. It's a guaranteed pick-me-up.
