In Romans 12, Paul directs believers not to do wrong to an enemy. “He tells us that God will repay,” says Alexander. “God is just. Does this imply that Christians are to pray and do good in the face of national threat; to work for peace instead of resorting to violent resistance?” The question is difficult, agrees Alexander. “But discipleship is costly. Jesus said that no one could be His disciple apart from denial of the spirit of the world (hate, hedonism, and death) and taking up the cross and following Him.”
