Definition

Aspergillosis is an infection caused by a specific fungus that is is found all over the world. It can result in severe lung problems.

Symptoms

Symptoms may include:
  • Chronic, productive cough
  • Coughing up blood
  • Fever
  • Shortness of breath
  • Wheezing

Diagnosis

You will be asked about your symptoms and medical history. A physical exam will be done. You may be referred to a specialist in lung diseases or infectious diseases.Your bodily fluids may be tested. This can be done with:
  • Blood samples
  • Urine samples
  • Sputum samples
Your bodily structures may be viewed. This can be done with:

A randomized trial found that fecal microbiota transplantation had a higher rate of remission in patients with active ulcerative colitis than those who recieved placebo. Fecal transplantation is believed to help the intestine develop a healthy balance of bacteria in the gut which can help the intestine recover and function more effectively.
