Screening for Arrhythmias (Heart Rhythm Disturbances)

The purpose of screening is early diagnosis and treatment. Screening tests are done for people without current symptoms, but who may be at high risk for certain diseases or conditions. There are no screening guidelines specifically for arrhythmias. However, if you are over the age of 50 and have a history of heart disease, it is recommended that you have regular check-ups, which should include an evaluation of your overall cardiovascular health. An electrocardiogram (EKG) records the heart’s activity by measuring electrical currents through the heart muscle. It can detect arrhythmias and damaged areas of the heart.

Water Before Meals May Promote Weight Loss

A randomized trial found that drinking water before main meals led to higher weight loss than those who were asked to imagine a full stomach before main meals. Water preloading is believed to help create a feeling of fullness or satiety during the meal, which may help curb overeating.
