Presidential Candidates Reflect on
Martin Luther King Jr.

He was nonviolent, but he was anything but tame. His message was from the Old Testament: Set my people free. He said we should "allow no man to take us so low as to hate him"--and yet, he seemed to draw energy from those who hated him. He was a prophet.

To honor him we asked those leaders who are now positioning themselves to be America’s next president to reflect on Martin Luther King Jr.--to hear from them about this man who said that "suffering can be a most creative and powerful social force," and that "there is within human nature an amazing potential for goodness."
