Most Christians have heard the first epistle to the Corinthians, especially these four verses, in Chapter 13, beginning at verse 4:

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

While poetic, it is used so often in romantic frames, people often lose sight of its message. These verses weren’t written for married couples, but for a group of Jesus’ early followers who He noticed were struggling to place others needs before their own.
