Your Brain on God!
If religion is nothing more than neurons firing in the brain or the production of neurochemicals, we might ask: are our religious experiences real? If we were to scan a subject’s brain while looking at an apple, the brain’s visual cortex would light up. But we do not call into question the existence of the apple because the brain has evolved a mechanism that allows a human to experience the apple. The next question might then be: have we evolved a universal way to experience the divine because the divine is in fact the Ultimate Reality? Science excels at explaining mechanics, but it struggles with giving meaning.”
